Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Career in Accounting

    For a person who has no previous experience or hasn't completed a course in accounting, what is the best route to take when hoping to start a career in accounting. Basically I'll be starting from scratch

    Quickest would be get a job in industry where they'll train you and put you through ACA/ACCA, 3.5 years.
    Hard to get a place with no experience but not impossible.
    Other than that, get at least a 2.1 degree and apply for a graduate program, 6.5 years.
    Have you a degree in anything?

    What part of the country are you in? And what's the living situation like, could you survive for 2 or 3 years on crap money?

    or if you already have a 2.1 in ay discipline, practice is an option at 3.5 years.

    Most of the accountancy bodies now offer a diploma or degree. Check out the ACCA Diploma, it is based on the first 3 exams and you can just continue with the rest of the subjects once you complete the Diploma.

    Another option is to do a Part Time degree in Finance and Accounting (3 years) and you will get 9 ACCA exemptions F1- F9. In that time you could also pick up work as a accounts assistant which will go towards experience. Additionally you can apply for a Big4 graduate programme if you so wish in your final year.

    Have you considered looking into the Accounting Technician Apprenticeship?

    You will be working straight away in an accounting role and progress on to the ACA exams once you have successfully completed the Accounting Technician course.
