Knack 2 is out in September, would be a good time to release the original with Septembers offerings.

Hopefully not, they've done well for the last 2 months, long may it continue.

Might be old news, might not be but I got an email this morning.
From 00:01 BST on 31 August 2017 we are changing the prices of PlayStation®Plus.

    - Annually, the price will change from €49.99 to €59.99 per annum.
    - Quarterly, the price will change from €19.99 to €24.99 per quarter.
    - Monthly, the price will change from €6.99 to €7.99 per month.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭Benzino

Just got that too. Bit of a joke, dunno how they can justify an increase.

Just got this in an email from Sony

Inevitable unfortunately since they put the price up in North America last year.

The ridiculous thing is this makes paying per quarter more expensive than monthly by €4 per year.

For 12 months it now costs €59.99(annual)/€99.96(quarterly)/€95.88(monthly)

hmm ps+ has shown it's not outstanding value at €49.99, with this increase I'd expect every batch of monthly games to be on par if not better than this month.

I think the 20% increase is a bit steep TBH.

They can fcuk right off with that price increase.
They cannot justify it in my eyes, for certain

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,222 ✭✭✭Calvin

Jesus christ that price increase....€5 would've been grand annually but €10 wtf. Might stack up some 1 year memberships now.

Indeed. This makes Xbox Live cheaper here at retail, though MS don't block an important feature like cloud saves behind the Gold paywall making it less necessary than plus.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

I just redeemed my last PS+ voucher that I had kicking around. I'm now signed up till Oct 2023 :P.

20% is a joke of an increase.

I'm glad I availed of the offer for 35 for a year a month or so ago.

Not sure if I will continue after 2018 as I find Xbox Live Gold offers me better value for my needs.

    That's an incredibly, greedy, increase.

Probably, in part, to justify the slight increase in quality of the 'free' games, in recent months. :o

Same I'm subbed until April 2019 but hope they do that deal again next year. :(
The biggest advantage on gold is if your sub expires the games don't go with it. If they introduced that it might go towards justifying the increase which just seems greedy as they know they are leading the way now in terms of sales. I know the US had an increase before us but honestly it wasn't right there either.

    Lads it's only a euro a month extra...... A euro a month.
    1 solitary lonely euro.

I throw out more than that a month in lose coins in the bin leaving shops over a month.

    Perspective people.... A euro.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

Pretty steep rise alright. I'm subscribed until December 2019 so don't think I will stack any more.

I have both PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold. I probably won't have the time to get the use out of both with me becoming a father soon so I think Plus could be the casualty. I don't play online so the monthly games (and cloud saves on PS4) are the only things that I subscribe for.

If you shop around Live can be gotten for around €35 or less.

why are you throwing out money? that's kinda stupid.

people are right to be a little bit pissed at this, there's a 20% increase, 20%, yet there's no increase in features/content for the 20% increase.

Sure a Euro a day sounds insignificant. If all our bills went up by €10 a year you won't be long noticing.

It's a 20% price rise. That's excessive in relation to anything

If the quality of the monthly games gets higher then I don't mind. If not, then it's pure greed.

I'm paid up until October next year, but will have to see how things pan out over the next year. I just hope they don't increase it year on year.

I've had a great time with a lot of the free games personally. So I'm not really gonna jump on the bandwagon here.

Have had PS Plus for 3 years and so far I finished

    Played/Playing and Loved/Love:
    • Transformers Devestation
    • Until Dawn
    • Killing floor 2
    • The Binding of Issac
    • Hotline Miami
    • This War of Mine: TLO
    • Valiant Hearts
    • Rocket League
    • Grim Fandango
    • Tales from the Borderlands
    • Skulls of the Shogun
    • Journey
    • Life is Strange
To Play/Got to go back to/Have Installed and Intend to Play/Revisit:
    • Resi 1 Re-make
    • Oddworld Abes Oddysee
    • LBP 3
    • Gucameelle
    • Fez
    • Everybody's Gone to Rapture
    • Gone Home
    • Infamous 1st Light
    • Limbo
    • Flower
    • Super Meat Boy
    • Helldivers
    • BroForce
    • Zombi
    • Saints Row Gat Out Of Hell
    • Tricky Towers
    • Day of the Tentacle Remastered
And fwiw, my partner plays the PS3 stuff and usually gives the free games a try for 30-60 mins to see if they are any good.
And I'm not even including the games on that system she's enjoyed (she loved and finished Beyond Good and Evil, and it's rare she'd finish a game like that tbh), though they are only a handful

Oh, also I have a PSVita, but I don't use it much.

I've been so pleasenetly surprised by games I've gotten through PS Plus that I wouldn't have bought or tried otherwise.
Skulls of the Shogun stood out for me as the moment I decided to start trying more of the games, It was really up my street and I loved it.
I would have been paying the fee to utilise the online functionality for games like Destiny anyway

But all in all, not bad for €150, but that's just been my experience :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,574 ✭✭✭EoinHef

They really need to split plus up,€25 for online and €50 for those who want the games.

Im subbed till december 2018,will have a choice to make after that.

The size of the increase is way off, typical $ony.

  • Registered Users Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I've go the sub but I dont really download or pay any of the free games, I only use it for online gaming TBH, so an online only version for me and players like that who have no real interest in the games should be something they should consider, they wont, but they probably should.

The games and discounts are there as a small compensation for the online fee. There will never be an 'online only' option. That's the whole point of PS+.

You know coppers shrapnel really wouldn't even count it as money anyway it was only to illustrate a point so moving on.

A euro is nothing, and anyone saying a euro is maybe not alot to you but to someone else that's blah blah...

Look without being cruel, if a euro a month makes that much of a difference to you, ps plus is probably a luxury you can do without. ( I mean you as in general terms not you specifically)

If my rent goes up 20,% a month that's a hit, if Netflix, spotify twitch prime, ps plus etc etc all go up 20% at once that's still not a big hit.

Not all 20% increases are as impactful as each other there's a lot of nuance there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

So anything can go up by 20% for you and as long as it's not your rent, you'll be grand?

Jesus H Fcuking Christ, that's some specialist logic there pal :pac:

I don't give a shít if it's a tenner a year, which is only 83 cent per month by the way, it's a matter of principle.
There's no promise of extra items for this 10er extra, just "Hey folks, it costs more now!".
    It's not good enough

Sure why not put it up by 40% then, sure €2 a month isnt much right?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,590 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

It's even worse in the UK. The price has gone up from £39.99 to £49.99, a 25% price hike.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,163 ✭✭✭Beefy78

How much was PS+ when it launched in 2010? I'm thinking €39.99?

    I think it was €49.99.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,870 ✭✭✭✭Generic Dreadhead

You know what I like? the fact they gave us a months notice
I am able to click on the store and buy it at the old rates right now if I like :)

I guess being outraged over price increases that won't actually affect people until well into the future is more fashionable.
There's also the totally reasonable option to never pay Sony any money ever.

The way people here go on you'd swear someone had a gun to their head
Private Companies can charge whatever the hell they want for whatever they sell, no-one is making you buy their product.
I don't see why 2 price increases over 7 years is surprising. That's how inflation works
Ever single service I pay/have paid for in the last decade has increased in price. (Sky TV, X-Box Live, Netflix, Vodafone, Soundcloud, iTunes Match etc)
My life would be pretty sweet if what I had to complain about was something effecting by a tenner my in Winter 2018

Don't like the new price? -> Buy now at the old price?
Don't want to subscribe anymore out of "principle"? -> Don't subscribe

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,408 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

My renewal's not until February. I'd hate to extend it out and then die before February, be a terrible waste of a tenner.
