From what I've been reading most people on Xbox side (myself included if I didn't already own the Star Wars game) are happier with Lovers...... and The Force Unleashed than Project Cars. Great month overall IMO.

Great to see people excited about The Force Unleashed again.

They can experience the same crushing disappointment and Star Destroyer provoked frustration the rest of us did back in 2008 :pac:

Oh well the lineup haven't been announced today.
It's probably the same old indie cheap stuff that I'm not really interested in and wouldn't buy if I hadn't a ps plus sub again.

One big game does not a great month make, if Sony offered up the four games that will be GWG in February you'd have people complaining about all of them bard Project Cars.

If Sony offered the GWG games it would be a very good start to the year. People are tired of indies every month. I'm not against them and have played quite a few but the same stuff every month is boring. Would it really kill them to take one month to blow us all away with a great AAA game?

Within the last few months we for Resident Evil remaster, the latest Transformers game and a number of critically acclaimed titles. One of GWG Xbox one titles next month, were it on PS plus would be meet with cries of "more indie crap". Sure Project Cars is a nice addition and I'll be playing it but the rest of next months lineup is hardly great, we have a remaster of a decades old game and then one that's 9 years old, hardly all that impressive.

Monkey island is pretty good tbh. I like the fact that any GWG is backwards compatible. I play the PS4 games but even though I have a Vita I rarely touch them, I don't have a PS3 anymore but I missed out on most of the great stuff on that.

Critically acclaimed titles means nothing really though, all it means is some games journo's liked it.

Ive seen plenty of high scoring reviews for games that i thought were terrible. Games are subjective,a few good reviews doesnt mean that everyone is going to like a game.

I appreciate that they must think we should put the best reviewed games on PS+ and thats fair enough but again a few good reviews dont mean a game will be for everyone.

Gravity Rush Remastered would make perfect sense, but sense rarely becomes reality, have a feeling we will see Salt and Sanctuary or Unravel.

Just bought Salt and Sanctuary in the sale so it better not be.

The games aren't for everyone, it it's impossible to please everyone and as such, the diverse range of games on plus means that people are going to be disappointed. If you look at last month with Day of the Tentacle, people complained that it was a remake of an ancient game. MS throw Monkey Island 2 up alongside a 9 year old game and an 'indie' title ad people are talking about what a great line up it is. Put that line up on plus and watch as people complain about it.

Looking at each consoles line up from the past year and Sony wins hands down. Sure there eye plenty of games I'll never play but by and large they went for interesting left field choices and or largely paid off. I've added every GWG title to my account the last year but can't remember the last time I turned on my Xbox One. MS seem or coasting along with nothing of any real interest coming up, be that on GWG or exclusive titles. If it weren't for the cheap gold subs out there I think I'd just cancel live. Shame, as MS are the underdog and it would be nice to see them come out with something interesting

I just seem to remember on the PS3 getting some real corkers of games.
    Darksiders
    Demon Souls
    Red Dead Redemption
    Mirrors Edge

When you put games like that up against what we're getting now.
    Day of the Tentacle
You know I cant remember any other recent ones and only have that one because it was just named

It kind of spells out what's missing. As a direct result of the freebies before for example I went and bought Darksiders 2, I already had Demon Souls but after losing my original was thrilled to get it again. Ideally that's what I'd like to see more of - why not offer something like Dishonored, or hell FIFA15 (I hate sports games), but AA or AAA games to get you in to try something else and possibly get hooked by them...

You left project cars out of next months lineup on gwg, which is a game i would love see come to plus. Been on wishlist on PC and PS4 awhile at this stage. Thats one of the reasons people are praising it i think along with the ones you have stated.

2016 had a better lineup on PS+ on PS4 than any of the previous years for me but i still feel like theres a lack AA or AAA titles on the service, didnt even get one december for christmas!! And this is where we differ, you say a broad range of titles but i say its too indie focused. Again with games being subjective i dont think either of us can claim to be right here and most likely would have to just disagree.

My point was more in relation to saying that because there critically acclaimed games we should all be happy with them. But as you point out,you cant please everyone and some people will be unhappy with them regardless of how they reviewed as it just may not be there type of game. So the games being critically acclaimed doesnt really mean anything to me.

PS Plus came toward the end of the PS3 life cycle so they had a huge amount of games to pick from. The PS4 is still relatively young and it will most likely end up rivaling what was given to us on the PS3. If Sony put FIFA 15 on PLus there would be riots, people would be up in arms giving out.

I was looking at GWG as one big game with 3 others, we often get something similar on Plus and people still complain. I think that I would rather get acclaimed smaller games than any big triple A title that I would most likely already own. The constant talk of Knack or Killzone being part of Plus just make people look like they have little interest in gaming beyond the big releases, at this stage with both being available for under 5 euro offering either would be a misstep by Sony. But that said, people would go mad for them as they are big titles.

Well most of the posts here stating Knack and Killzone here are usually sarcasm/jokes from what i see. So i wouldnt get to carried away with that.

As for the bolded bit,who cares if some people are only into big triple A releases? Are we saying their opinion on plus is less valid?

If you like smaller independent titles or games that are niche thats cool,PS+ is made for you. But for some, those games dont cut it. Personally id like to see a better mix,i dont mind the smaller titles or niche titles if there was more AAA games in the mix with them.

I think that many would be over the moon to get them simply because they are triple A. The prestige associated with getting a triple A title is generally way out of proportion with the quality of the titles.

Less valid, no but not one I would hold in much esteem. By all means enjoy triple A titles, I love quite a few of them but to write something off because it is from a small studio and didn't cost $100 million is ridiculous.

I don't care where a game comes from or if it's a little different, all I care about is the enjoyment I get from playing it. Some of the best gaming experiences of my gaming life have came from tiny studio titles. To write off games because they are from a small developer and a little out of left field is only robbing yourself of an experience. Every month there are people on here giving about the upcoming games without so much as giving them a chance, at least try something before you get offended by it for not being a big title.

    Any news on February's games?

Probably won't hear anything until Tuesday.

I've a funny feeling RE Revelations 2 will be on Plus or has it already? Think I'm gonna pay the 5euro for it anyways ...

Ive yet to write off indies or games that dont cost 100mil in any of my posts yet you keep saying thats whats happening. All ive said is there needs to be a better mix. If you dont value other peoples opinion as much as your own id suggest thats your problem, its certainly not theres just because they dont agree with you.

Maybe other people dont care where games come from they just happen to enjoy AAA games more than other titles?
Also again,i havent wrote off any titles. Ive called for a better mix of games, and less of a focus on indie or niche titles, that doesn not mean i dont want to see any indie/niche titles on the service, just more variety. At this stage we have had a good few years of plus, people are tired of the lack of larger titles on the service regarding the PS4. A fair complaint IMO

I think I'll drop the PS Plus subscription when it runs out.
Most of the games I've played from Plus have been either boring or frustrating and just not the type of games I'd buy.
I'm playing Hyper Void now and it's just very frustrating.
There the kind of games I wouldn't buy and I'd be better off spending time playing something better.
I just play them because they're on PS Plus and I have them there for a limited time.
Yep apart from Lords of the fallen which was mediocre and Transformers Devastation which was just ok really the rest of the PS Plus lineup over the months has been not to my satisfaction at all.
I mean here's some examples of junk games Gone Home, Galakz and Flame Over.
Everybody's gone to the rapture was basically just following light beams for 3 hours and the story was complete junk.
I'm not expecting anything good this month either.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't crap again.

I still think €50 (which is required for online play anyway) is a great investment to get the opportunity to play 24/48/72 games that i probably wouldn't have bought anyway. I would never have experienced Journey (meh), Guacamelee (amazing) or Dust: An Elysian Tale (superb) otherwise. So even though there are crap games, there are also amazing games, just depends on what you like.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭Notorious

I now feel that I'm paying for the privilege of playing online, not the PS Plus games. The selection of "free" games went downhill when mandatory Plus memberships were imposed to play online. Nearly every game that comes out is a game I've played before (or is a HD remaster).

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭tigger123

All depends on what you're into. For me it's like having a Netflix subscription, you end up watching/playing/enjoying stuff you'd never thought you would.

Also, I think of the games as a bonus. I'm happy to pay 50 per year for the online service. For the amount of time I spend every year playing online it's a bargain for a (mostly) uninterrupted service.

You are. That is what the service is now - a smattering of free games thrown into your subscription to play online. Don't play online? Don't sign up.

I don't agree with that so much.
I don't play online much if at all anymore but I do pay for the free games (even if I don't like most of them) Plus exclusive discounts on PSN purchases and the extra cloud storage space. I get more than my €50 back a year in the games and discounts.

I don't play online at all so I just use it for the free games and discounts. €50 isn't much money for what I get back from it.

I think the value in the service is entirely dependant on the user themselves and what they want to get out of it the most, be that online play, free games, discounts, extra cloud storage, additional features, or whatever else.

At the end of the day €50 is going to be great value for most people, and not liking the games that you get with it still doesn't take away that much from the service as a whole.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,408 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

€50 is cheap for me as majority of my gaming is online. Ok it used to be free and paying for the service hasn't improved it but for €50 it's great value.

According to Amazon, the PS+ PS4 games this month are LittleBigPlanet 3 and Not a Hero. Really good games actually.
