irish sim for unlocked uk phone

I am trying to buy an unlocked samsung s6 from argos in the UK and will be coming home in 6 months. Their "live chat" says it only accepts uk sims even though it is unlocked. Is it possible that a uk unlocked phone would not accept an irish sim card?

An unlocked (also known as 'SIM free') UK phone will work in Ireland no problem, I purchased my last four phones from Amazon UK which included two Samsungs.

Live chat involves talking to someone in a call centre, I wouldn't be asking them any technical stuff, do your own research.
