Plenty of cities in Asia have elevated rail and subway lines and continue to build them at an incredible rate , they work very well and are far cheaper and faster to build than underground lines.

Note: these are proper rail lines and light rail lines, not monorails.

90% of new investment should go into rail based transportation , more roads just encourages more cars and then you'll get bottlenecks at crunch points which will defeat the purpose of efficient transportation. Buses cannot handle the anything like the same number of commuters as trains and it's obvious that they don't serve the population well in Dublin.

And how many of those cities are like Dublin?

Dublin is perfectly suited to rail where elevated stations play a very small roll, just like Amsterdam and other comparable cities.

Is there any way that a Luas connection between say the Red Cow and Dundrum could be considered?

I think this would be great, or bringing it to Sandyford. Having a few scraps of tram line here and there is just not enough for such a busy city. A circle would really help with the flow.

Seriously, where would you put it? How much do you think the CPO for all those offices/warehouses/homes would cost?

It should have be co located with the M50 , but the breath of thinking wasn't there, Ireland has had a huge anti-rail perspective for far too long

The R112 from the Naas road to the Dundrum bridge is probably wide enough to accommodate a tramline and public transport/cycling/walking

Yes but it is a busy route AND probably has a thousand entranceways along it.

How would this be accommodated with a tramline in the middle?

The omelette of efficient public transport might require some eggs of private car use cracked

Use of a simile does not hide the fact that you have not answered my question.

lads we cant even get metro north or du built and there is talk of a line from red cow etc to dundrum? get real. Best case scenario the way I see it, get those two schemes built, it will take a lot of traffic off the road initially, leave things as they are for people who public transport simply doesnt make sense for...

We are coming from a joke scenario currently, we may get to a stage where there is a semi decent network, with metro north and DU. If we get that Ill be more than happy...

throw in the eastern bypass for good measure when DU and MN are done...

Demote the route from a R road, make it local access for residents only, possibly one way for normal motor vehicles, not one way the same direction the whole way.

The Naas Road has loads of house entrances too.
