Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Radiators not working upstairs

Hi all, we've moved into a 2 story house and heating is operated by a Bord Gais boiler. We've turned on the heating and the downstairs radiators heat up no problem, but there is no heat in any of the upstairs rads, they're all stone cold! (And yes we have made sure they are turned on :) ) any ideas?
On a separate note our immersion is not working either, could this be related? Thanks!

    Hiya,

Not a plumber but have had similar problems. First thing is bleed the rads. If that's not enough, make sure there's enough water in the system

    This happened to me once...

Thought bleeding the radiators would do it.

I was perplexed when no water appeared.

Turns out that someone had turned off a valve in the storage room (unbeknown to me) to kill the water flow to upstairs.

    1. Try bleed the radiators. If that fails..

    2. Check if the necessary valve taps are open. If that fails....

    3. Check the Feed and Expansion tank in the attic has sufficient water and not too low. It's like a toilet cistern.

What Jimbob said - that's how I should have put it. Our hand valve was in by the pump and only had to be opened until the system topped up again, but then closed otherwise we got overflow. I know when it fills as the sound changes. Open valve initially, louder sound from pipe. Once system fills, the flowing sound gets quieter

Maybe it's a zoned heating system and the actuated valve for upstairs is stuck. Is there a standalone thermostat upstairs and downstairs ?

Is there a wall thermostat upstairs? If yes, then make sure it's turned up high enough

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'm going to attach a picture of the boiler as i don't know where the valves are! :) there's a separate thermostat upstairs and we turned it up to the highest but no luck!

Is there any electronic valves anywhere. Perhaps behind the cylinder?

The white box on the bottom left, slide the grey button from auto to manual. Then turn on downstairs heating and see if upstairs heats
