Family Car Suggestions - 15k budget

currently driving a 2005 3.0 petrol x3 which has been covering less than 5k per year but will soon be adding a 25km daily round trip city commute to that as partner comes off maternity leave. we used to have a second hatchback for the commute but got rid as i have been working from home more and it was not getting any use.

so we can live with 1 car, but have decided it doesn't need to be a gas guzzling SUV anymore (17mpg)

    what we are looking for:
large boot for buggy and kids things
rear leg room for 2x extended rear facing seats without needing to wind the front seats up to the dashboard
    modern / sporty looking car
    leather

    prefereaby OEM fitted:
good audio / integrated bluetooth / MFSW
    air con / electric seats
    UV tinted windows

SUV/estate/hatchback are all under consideration but low tax, inusrance and fuel consumption, along with cheap maintenance. ideally something that will keep some of its of value for a trade in 3 years down the road.

main contender i would think at the moment is something like a 12/13 mondeo estate with titanium spec, but theres a huge variety of cars on donedeal in scope and would like some suggestions for other makes to look at.

aiming to buy between now and february, would we get better deals haggling now or would we be well to wait until january when stock is beiung traded

Minders Mondeos tend to be diesel, which is not ideal for your tiny mileage.

Mileage should be up to about 10km per year, is that too low for a diesel?

I'm think I that ill never sell a petrol car on due to perception of them so happy enough to buy a diesel in order to be able to sell it on.

Do you think a petrol is a better buy?

    Thanks for the reply

If you'd buy one, why wouldn't someone else? There is still a market for petrol cars.
The reason you might shy away from diesel is regular short trips could lead to issues which will cost money.
Now, if you're doing regular longer trips you might get away with it.
There's a lot of middle ground between a 3.0 X3 petrol and a diesel Mondeo!
