Cover up for winter wedding?

I've a wedding coming up in a few weeks and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to wear over my dress! I'm wearing a sleeveless dress which has a floral pattern and a full skirt. I've never been to a winter wedding so I'm not even sure if a sleeveless dress is ok, but money has been very tight lately and I bought the dress a year ago and have never worn it, so I really want to give it an outing. I was thinking perhaps a wrap/shawl of some sort might work, maybe? I'm not sure a bolero/shrug type thing would work? Or do I just wear a nice coat and assume that once the jacket is off, it'll be warm enough to be sleeveless in the hotel? Help! What do people do normally?

Wear a nice coat, especially if there's a service in a church- you'll freeze to death otherwise.

I usually just bring a shawl but a bolero or blazer are perfectly acceptable IMO

I agree with Ginger Lily about the coat if it is a church wedding or if you are going to be hanging around outside a lot.

Hotels function rooms tend to be very warm in my experience but you could also have a shawl with you (left in the car or room) if you need it.

if the budget stretches to something in fur (a la penneys or dunnes, or borrowed) that would look great for a winter wedding I think.

Thanks! I will definitely wear a nice coat alright, but just wasn't sure if I needed something else too.

Baby and Crumble, I did consider fur but wasn't sure whether it'd work with the dress or not. Glad to hear you think it would. ☺

Oh I'd love a fur stole or jacket over that dress!
Anything goes for a Winter wedding really - the last one I was at, at least half of the women had fur jackets or coats or stoles and several of them had some sort of lighter scarfy coverup for later in the day.

Penneys or H &M usually gave lovely furry wraps / boleros at Christmas time, that aren't that expensive. Hopefully in time for the wedding. The dress looks fab btw

D'ya know I didn't even think of Penneys or H&M for something like that, I kind of imagined they wouldn't have them at the cheap end of the market, so that's great! Thanks.

that dunnes one is v cute!

I recently purchased a lovely one from ebay so if it doesn't arrive on time for my brother's wedding I may head to Dunnes.
