    Hi,

A stone absolutely clattered my windscreen and both cracked and chipped it. I doubt it can be repaired.

Its a rain sensor/2011 e-class. The magic question - anyone have any idea of approx cost? Unfortunately dont have windscreen cover!

    Cheers

Not DIY, moved to main forum

Ring Autoglass and get a quote

Yep, your best bet is to ring Autoglass or Mr. Windscreen and ask them.

Ive a question on this not worth its own thread.Mine has a chip.
If I get a new screen is it exactly the same?
    Like is it OEM?
Mine has black dotted stuff up the top middle and a vw logo etc etc

    cheers

Normally you won't get a genuine screen but it will be the same in terms of the shape of the black dotted features etc. It wouldn't have a vw logo though.
You can try to insist on genuine one but if it's through insurance, you would possibly have to pay the difference in cost.
To be honest, I'd nearly consider doing that in future as I'm not quite happy with a replacement screen I got.

Pilkington make OEM windscreens for most of the car manufacturers but most windscreen replacement firms don't carry them as they are very expensive. In most cases you will get a cheaper patented one that's of lower quality. If you want OEM then you will most likely have to pay the difference over the limit your insurance company will cover replacing it.

Most important is make sure the auto wiper sensor is fitted correctly on the new screen.

Yeah be sure to get it fitted properly anyway, need to be pedantic about it. I'd be looking for an oem replacement, especially if it is a heated window with sensors for lights, wipers etc. Seen incorrectly fitted windscreens cause torture with auto wipers in the past!
