    Hi all,

My rear door won't open from the outside, but opens fine from the inside.
    Is this an NCT fail?

    Thanks,
    P.

It's a fail, see page 31 of the manual...
    REASONS FOR FAILURE
    Doors
    1 A door missing.

2 Door cannot be shut or opened normally or is liable to open on its own.

    3 Insecure receivers or catch.

Have you any idea what's wrong with it? Is there a chance that with the central locking set to lock or unlock that the lock might function on a one off use which would get you through the NCT?

No, unfortunately. The only setting is to just unlock the drivers door or unlock all.
The rear drivers door won't open from the outside, but the rear passenger side one will. It opens fine from the inside. There is resistance from the handle, so it's not the cable.
Is there 2 locks or something that it opens from the inside OK?

It's an Alfa and I've seen others having this problem (of bloody course!).

Feckin typical. After replacing a ton of stuff the car drives like a dream and now this! Ugh!

It's not the easiest of jobs taking off the door card inside to get at the door lock mechanism, it's delicate and you need to be careful not to break the clips in the process. Depending on the age of the car if it's quite old a quick cheap fix might be to pick up a door at a scrapyard and fit the entire door on, it would need to be hooked to the electrics for the central locking to fully function correctly but would pass NCT without this working. If you could see what part if broken or out of place on your door you might be able to just order that part to fix it.

Bring your car to the test center and get it tested. There could be more than the door handle wrong with it and its only 28 euro for a full retest anyway. You don't want to bring it twice to the mechanic ideally.

My cars window washer motor has been gone for the last two NCT's and was never tested in the test. Its meant to be tested but never was.
You might be lucky if its not the door on the drivers side.
