Excel spreadsheet - how to format numbers to say millions

    Doing an assignment- the figures involved are big. Many of the number s are millions and billion s - is there a way in excel to format cells to work then in millions?

    Go to the number formats on the Home ribbon, select More Number formats on the drop down. In the pop up window select Custom and in the box under where is says Type: put

    #,##0.00,, "M"

    This will format 1 million as 1.00M

    If you don't have any numbers smaller than 1million then you could leave out the .00
