I'm looking for some advice for the Boardies in this forum.

I have a Lowe Alpine Pax 30 that is about 10 years old, and getting towards the end of its useful life (holes in base)

I'm looking for:

• A similar sized rucksack (30 - 40 litre)
• Does not have a separate compartment for a laptop
• Can hold 2 x full lever arch folders - I use it for college as well
• Hard wearing (well made) - normally used 5/6 days a week
• Reasonably waterproof
• Not too heavy
• Not something too expensive, but value for money.

Any suggestions?

I hiked the PCT with a Osprey Exos 58 and I found it to be a great backpack. You are looking for a backpack in the 30-40 liter range which would be a Osprey Exos 38. As you stated no backpack is 100% waterproof so you'd still need a rain cover.
