    My desktop just died. I only ever use it for web browsing, email etc. Is there something cheap that I could connect my existing monitor & keyboard to?

    I would suggest an ainol mini pic. I have 2 connected to TV and they are excellent for just basic stuff cheap too in the range of mini pics.
