Thermostat Question

My son got the keys to a new house in the past week
During the build he met the sparks a few times to arrange placement of sockets, wiring for broadband etc

One thing he queried was the Thermostat for upstairs is in a bedroom.

He will be renting out that room so won't have access for reasons of the renters privacy
He questioned if it could be moved to outside the bedroom , in the hallway, and was told it would not comply with ''Building Reg's''

Now that he has the keys is it possible to move it now, or will that be not in compliance with the Reg's, or cause any issues.

    Thanks for any advice.

Yes, the Electrician said if he moved it the Certifyer would not sign off that the electrical works were in compliance.

Assuming the house in in the ROI the electrical works only have to comply with "The National Rules for Electrical Installations, 4th edition ET101:2008". I am pretty sure that no such regulation exists.

Ask him to cite exactly where the non compliance with ET101 would occur. The fine people in this forum will gladly give you the necessary information if it is a false claim.

That would be the Ancillary Cert required under BCAR, not the electrical cert.

Building Regs Part L requires that the room temperature of each heating zone is monitored, so normally the upstairs zone will have a room thermostat in the master bedroom.

The regs don't specify which room, so moving it to another bedroom would be fine.

    The landing wouldn't do, though.

Once again Boards gives the answer

Many thanks Guy's, was about to give the Sparks an earful, saved by @Hoagy
