Of course FG have no intention of letting this bill get out of the traps. No chance.

Unfortunately for the ultra conservative nanny staters, medical marijuana is coming. The critical mass is building in the UK, a referendum would almost certainly see it through.

When that inevitably comes to pass over there it will be all hands on deck to keep it locked down over here.

I don't think the majority of LEO have the motivation not to mind the resources to go chasing people down for what is, let's face it, basically harmless.

Of course there are many, many more valid and convincing arguments for legalisation and regulation than for prohibition. But they'll be ignored. It will simply happen.

I think you're probably right, some TDs have to be seen to put up a fight in the Dail though, so they can face their more conservative voters and say that, "It's terrible, but we tried our best". Whatever about the medicinal value argument it should be legalised to take it out of the criminal elements hands and to provide a safer, higher quality product. People are sick of having to interact with scumbags just to get some weed.

It's not that FG are against medical marijuana it's Gino's bill they are against. Partly as revenge against the PBP for Jobstown and mostly because the bill is so badly written and was as plain as day really about decrimilising weed.

Looks like people will continue to buy it illegally for another while!

Given it only seems to work in very rare illnesses it could be a while before Gino finds someone else to base a campaign around!

Could be 2020 before we see a medical marijuana bill passed.

Labour and Sen Lynne Ruane are drafting a bill with the aim of decrimilising drugs.

I think decriminalisation is a cop-out, it takes addicts out of the criminal justice system, but it doesn't address the supply of dangerous, adulterated drugs.

Its bs because jh79 will no doubt say so

The study isn't bs but the idea that this research should influence legislation is.

The beginnings of the legislation in question was drafted based on what? Extensive research and irrefutable evidence? No, it was predominantly based on protectionism of industry, prejudice and baseless hysteria with little to no research/evidence to support it.

Kate O Connell TD is trying to bring in a law banning the sale of quack cures for cancer. The plan is to extend it to other illnesses if succesful. Prisons / Fines proposed for those found guilty.

are there people who say smoking cannabis cures cancer?

Vera and Gino often post links to website that make such claims. Under such a law if these companies operate in ireland then the owner could end up in prison and rightly so.

The article states that the law could be expanded to other illnesses too and if this happens it will definitely affect how cbd oil is sold in this country.

really? Cures cancer, not just alleviate some of the symptoms?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,258 ✭✭✭jh79

Yeah, Vera promotes Rick Simpsons quack cure for cancer on her twitter.

Gino publically claims he doesn't believe it cures cancer but he does link to websites that make such claims. Also there were the Cannabis Kills Cancer posters that the PBP put up in Mayo. He also promotes a page that claims it cures autism.

The Kapala clinic offered one of thier pretend prescriptions to a non verbal autistic child based on a sykpe consultation!

Ah come on now nobody thinks that smoking cannabis actually cures the disease, it just may help alleviate suffering in certain patients. The American Lung Foundation lists Cannabis smoking as a cause of lung cancer.

Unfortunately some people do. Rick Simpsons canabis oil is sold as a cure for all types of cancer.

If the bill is expanded to other illnesses , as proposed, it will have a massive impact on how cannabis products are sold in Ireland.

Rick Simpson does not sell his oil.

It'll be legal in the next 10-15 years so who cares.

If you say so, the article i read on her twitter says the offer or promotion of quack cancer cures would be outlawed anyways.

Even if it was legal you still couldn't offer or promote it as a cure.

David Robert Grimes is working on this new anti-quackery bill with Kate O'Connell. He mentions cannabis oil as a future target in the Sunday Times. He states further legislation is needed to "regulate wildly misused "panacea" treatments such as cannabis oil"

Wonder if this tweet is referring to Vera?

Interesting times ahead for Gino's medicinal cannabis bill.

Well in Vera's case, the Cannabis is doing a good job, no two ways about it.
