Living in Medowbrook, Dundrum and thinking about ditching cable. How much of an aerial would I need ? Would a rabbits ears work for Saorview channels ?

Any idea how much a 2 channel satellite dish might cost to install for a basic combo box ?

    Thanks

Although an indoor set top aerial would probably work where you are they are not recommended because they are prone to upset. Even someone walking around the room can disturb them. If you are getting a satellite dish installed, it is not a lot more to add on a small aerial at the same time. You could get a cheapo one from a Euro store and try it to see. Don't bother with fancy boosted/amplified yokes as they are a con.
I can't comment on price for an install as I do all my own work. It's fairly straight-forward for a competent DIYer.

So called rabbits ears are VHF aerials for DAB and FM radio not TV.

If you want to use an indoor aerial at least get one designed for UHF TV.

Rabbit ears worked for me when I was in Cork 20rothmans. You might be lucky where you are.

In Dundrum, an indoor aerial will be grand.

But if you're hiring a guy to put up a dish, maybe get him to put an aerial up too, just so you're not looking at an ugly yoke in your sitting room.

Thanks Guys. Will get my hands on an indoor UHF aerial and see how it goes but I think it makes sense to put up a small external one while getting the dish installed to ensure good reception on the combo box

From your location the dish and aerial will be pointing in roughly the same direction so it makes sense to fit a small aerial near the dish.

If the dish and aerial are located close to each other, you can get an LNB that adds the Saorview signal to the satellite one and only one cable will carry both signals.

You then split it at the TV.
