DDOS attack last Friday

    Has anyone experience any negative effects from last Friday massive DDOS? In particular if you are hosting your systems in cloud environments.

    No, none. No sign of brute force attacks on any of my systems and no degraded service. Saw mentions of the report on twitter, but saw no sign personally.

    Dyn themselves are a pretty big commercial DNS provider, so quite a few sites experienced issues. TTLs and distributed DNS though tend to mitigate this issue, the US east coast seems to have experienced the most issues; the attack was probably concentrated on Dyn's infrastructure in this region.

    Reports suggesting that this was carried out using compromised IoT devices. This is definitely a major concern that needs to be thought about. The volume of Internet-capable consumer devices based on just Android is growing exponentially - in most cases the consumer has no need nor ability to interact with the underlying OS, so devices will remain unpatched and vulnerable through their entire lifecycle.
