The freephone system does not work for the homeless.
You have to ring em at 10.30 in the evening on the dot.
    It goes into a lottery.
If your number is between 1 and 50 they tell you your number.
You have to wait. Sometimes 1 or even 2 hours on the phone.
Real homeless can not charge their phone enough to stay on.
Only a few people get a bed.
Many people stopped ringing the freephone. They know it is useless. They started using other ways.
Doing the freephone is a well paid job. Those people do not want to loose the hours.
The MQI on Merchants Quay is for drug addicts.
They also opened the doors for homeless.
They have a new rule. No homeless can come in unless they have a been put on the system the day before for a bed.
So only the lucky ones who rang and got through on time get into MQI to charge phones and warm up a bit for the night or get a shower.
The real homeless have to sit outside in the cold, evening and night. This makes the suffering last 3 hours longer every night.
Why did they do this? To make the homeless ring the freephone again so those people get their numbers. They still count you in the lottery when you ring. You are just not on the system as looking for a bed for the night.
There are enough staff and seats in MQI to open their doors for everyone.
They are just lazy and usually talk to each other. Now there are only a handful of homeless in the MQI. The staff have it easy. They earn 22.50 an hour during the day and double that in the evening and nights. Just to stand there and laugh. All the homeless agree they are heartless and do nothing for us.
City council have not opened up any extra spaces for the winter.
Homeless fear they will freeze to death this winter.

I'm sorry to hear you have issue with Merchants Quay Ireland but not sure what posting here will do for you.

Perhaps if you come up with an alternative way to run things and you can get other homeless to sign a petition you can then approach the media?

I am sorry you are experiencing this. The system may need some work but they have to do something to manage the amount of people using the service. There are so many hostels with different criteria, availability, etc. so having a centralised system can help control that. Have you looked into getting an extended bed in another place? Even for a couple of nights a week until you can get a more stable place sorted.

Do you work or volunteer in homeless services?

Homelessness could be solved at the flick of a pen but there are too many people making a living out of it

I was sympathetic until the accusations at the end.

    Thread Closed.

The homeless situation is a massive discussion point at the moment. The thread is being closed not to crush that discussion, it's being closed as the OP who created the thread had a habit of using AH as a soapbox.
    This looks no different.
