Any one have thoughts on buying a low price desktop and upgrading components to a mid range gaming/3dCAD workstation.

At present i can get HP 280 G2 new for 210euro.

    Specs inc.
    i5 6500 - 3.2 GHz Processor
    Intel® H110 Board
    500gb HDD
    4gb ddr4 Ram
    Windows 7

    Plan buying to upgrade:
    GTX 1050 - 160 euro thereabouts
    8gb DDR4 Ram - 50 euro
    May require PSupply - 50euro
    SSD 250gb - 95euro

Total 550 for hopefully a decent machine.

Would be great hear peoples opinions or recommendations.

That's a great price for the base - usually that CPU costs as much on its own!

    I'd say for upgrades, think
    1050 Ti - €175
    +4Gb RAM - €16
    250Gb Samsung 850 Evo - €95
No need to upgrade the power supply, the 1050 cards are frugal.

Just check it's not the SFF model, otherwise the best GPU to fit would be GTX 950 low profile (by KFA2)

Definitely an amazing price but do check the PSU. Don't know about the G series desktops but some of HP's home desktops are now using very low-wattage units, some as low as 150w which will not be enough.

If you're forced to get a new PSU I'd probably stretch the extra €50 to €600 overall and get a 4GB RX470 or 3GB GTX1060.

If the PC has a half-decent PSU (250w-ish) that will support the GTX1050 or Ti and no upgrade is required, I'd stick with one of those.
