My grandmother passed away tonight :(

Had been taken to hospital this afternoon with pneumonia from which she developed complications.

Kinda shocked at the speed it all happened tbh. I guess if there is any comfort it's that it was so quick there likely wasn't much pain.

She had a great life though, 94 years of it.

Ah Necro that's ****ty. So sorry for your loss. 94 is pretty impressive though. That's some amount of life lived.

Why is there a weather warning for fog? Is this taken the whole warning system too far?
    ORANGE
FOG WARNING FOR DUBLIN, CARLOW, KILDARE, KILKENNY, LAOIS, WEXFORD, WICKLOW, OFFALY, WESTMEATH, MEATH, GALWAY, MAYO, ROSCOMMON, CLARE, CORK, LIMERICK, TIPPERARY AND WATERFORD

Mist will thicken into fog overnight and will be dense at times.

    Validity: 9 April 2019 00:01 to 9 April 2019 08:00

    Two things

If it’s for 18 feckin counties just call it nationwide or at least Connacht, Munster and Leinster

Secondly, that’s yesterday’s news Strawbs, you are almost certainly not going to be affected by fog today*

*if you die in a horrible fog relatives crash, my bad

It was on the top banner of RTÉ news page at time of posting. Just checked and it’s still there!

Craziest weather warning so far. If they said red, you could have services closed for the duration.

Ah the poor aul whest, they're even giving us the weather warnings a day late

Ah I'm ok. Funeral won't be for another 10 days - 2 weeks as is standard for UK stuff :(

Frustrating as there's an elderly aunt that she was caring for so Mum can't sort anything for her until after that.

The wait for Funerals in the UK is unreal. Must be torture to have to wait that amount of time to put a loved one to rest. From my own experience the three days and done felt like a mercy.

Is anyone checking in on the aunt?

Yeah, Mum is over there now and has been since last Friday. Her brother and sister are there too but they're the executors so Mum is currently caring for her.

What will likely happen is that she'll somehow be brought to Ireland after all is settled, and live with Mum and Dad. Huge upheaval but it's either that or put her into a care home.

If you need any help let me know. My parents were involved with the Irish centre and Sligo and Mayo associations and I think they’re are still some of the old contacts who could offer assistance if needed.

    I'm working till midnight :(

Then have an hours drive home, but as it's Friday I'm treating myself to a filthy takeaway en route.

I just had takeout from a new (to me) burger place near my house. It was pretty tasty.

I had a buffalo chicken burger, complete with a blue cheese dressing. And seasoned fries. And onion rings. And a coke zero to wash it down.

I remember playing a massive game of chasing around it the first time I was in Paris. It wasn't intentional, but I was on holidays with a dickhead who was being a dick.

Last time I was there I went inside it and wow... It was around Christmas and they had some festive decorations and it was simply breathtaking.

    Sad sight to see.

Boo... it was necessary filler so we dont need to cut to a brooding Jon Snow or summit like that. Not a fab start but I'm optimistic.

    That's a fair assessment.

Just..... There is only 5 eps left. No filler!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

It's not that it was filler, it was just very safe and predictable, two things this show used to eschew like a usb plimsoll. All things that needed to happen apart from the "whole new world" bit but the wall decoration wasn't enough of a threat. Ah well.... Only way is up.

    Happy Easter everyone!

Spent the last two weeks telling the kids there'd be no chocolate because we're not Christians so there were scenes this morning when they realised daddy had been winding them up :)

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Just gave the house a long overdue clean. Still lots to do but the worst of it is fixed. Probably won’t bother with the rest.

I reeeeeally hope you took out the Festivus pole and declared "feats of strength! No one touches an egg till you wrestle me to the ground!". I'd almost go for the 4th kid just so's I'd have one who didn't know it was a wind-up

I am 32.9 and I chose "Sparkles the unicorn" egg from Aldi. I'm sitting with a cup of coffee (caramel Nespresso), my egg and the dog.

    Happy Easter y'all.

Also, am going to the Leinster match today. Need to bring sun cream!

Oh and insomnia meant that I went for a wog (a sully style mix of a walk and a jog) at 4.30 this morning. Therefore I earned the egg.
