Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I didn't think it could get much worse but it's descending into complete farce.

What about when they're driving, or in their workplaces?

CD's or MP3's ?

The BAI seem to take pride in the fact that 84% of adults listen to an Irish licenced radio station daily but in reality the fact that 16% cant find anything they want on any station is a damning indictment of Irish radio and the body which regulates it.

I'd also be surprised if those 84% are entirely happy with the choice they have. A lot of people seem to be stuck listening to programmes they don't like either through being on at work or just being the best of a bad bunch.

I would have to question the validity of lots of figures these days. It's possible that the reality is: "84% of adults, who have a landline, who are available to answer the phone and who will answer the questions have stated that they listen to an Irish licenced radio station daily." I'm aware that I have no idea how these surveys are done, but I'm guessing the method used would have a bias towards a type of person who uses the method used Eg: ask through snapchat and you'll get a tiny percentage of radio listeners.

The Irish only playlist was a refreshing change from the monotony of the usual chart stuff.

Interesting = wasn't there a rumour going around here last year that Ray Foley was to take over weekenders ? Eoin McDermott taking over drive was also said here a year before it actually happened

It's the same as all the rest of the pop stations:
- Brutal 'music'
- Lots of filler talk between songs
- Same schedule as all the other pop fm's. Ie, 'whacky' breakfast show followed by 'a lot of laughs' mid morning show, then 'a non stop hits' show (same crap music as all the other channels).

Lads, be creative, play decent music (txfm is gone now, try take their listeners), basically they should leave their comfort zone and let the dj's acually play what they want to play!

TX is gone because the music you speak of closed it.Also, if it had an audience it would not be off air. There is no market for specialist indie/rock/alternative on a survivable scale. End of story. Cribbing about what other stations do means you don't actually understand how stations stay open and pay bills. Yes, there's lots of rubbish pop music on stations, but guess what? people consume it. The market decides this, not you or I, the market.

I'm staying miles out of this but as always I butt in when I see quotes like that because it's a nonsense thing to say.

There absolutely is a market for specialist music services on a survivable scale BUT not using the existing regulatory and business models. Very big difference between the two.

Now, back to your scheduled (2FM) programming.

And, if there weren't a commercial market for it, one could argue that it would be RTE's responsibility as the public broadcaster to fill the void, so either way I think you're off base Howard100.

100% agree. TX did not close down due to the playlist...that is a ludicrous assertion. It closed down because the BAI need to adapt the way they do things. There is a market for a station with a more alternative sound on a national level but it needs to be done sustainably and the BAI regs don't allow that currently.

I would love to see an Irish version of say 96.5 The Buzz or X105.1 in the US...two localised stations that play good music with excellent presenters or presenting teams, as opposed to going with each show having one presenter and it being too 'in depth in the music' which I think TX was guilty of at times. Yes champion the music and make that the stations selling point with more edgy branding "we don't play the usual sh1te" but it needs to aim to entertain also to catch a broader market.

It will be interesting to see what financial loss 2fm made in 2016, of course Healy has a get out of jail card this year of blaming brexit

The RTE DG was on with sean o rourke this morning, talk about delusional, she thinks 2fm is doing a great job and that Jenny Greene is what all the youth are into

The RTE DG was on with sean o rourke this morning, talk about delusional, she thinks 2fm is doing a great job and that Jenny Greene is what all the youth are into

She said it is serving a purpose as part of RTÉ's remit serving younger people. I would agree that finally it is beginning to serve that younger market and it now, despite some remaining schedule issues, is starting to be fit for purpose.

As for Jenny Greene...the DG comes from a commercial background so is probably used to jumping on anything remotely successful and flogging it to death...they are certainly doing that!
