A high of 13.7C here near Tralee , started overcast and drizzly and dried up but remained muggy, cloud opened up in the afternoon and feeling fresher.

Good clear patches for the moment outside with the Very bright moon in and out between the clouds. So bright earlier as it rose I could quite clearly make out the contrails from planes.

I don't recall this persistent precip across many parts of the country being forecast? Scattered showers with some prolonged in places is what I heard. In Kildare, the rain woke me at about 6am. I'm in work in Dublin now and it's still raining, on the border between moderate and heavy. There has been no let up at all so far. It seems more like a a general weather system type event.

Did something develop during the night that was not expected?

There was hints of a comma crossing the country yesterday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,257 ✭✭✭highdef

There was hints of a comma crossing the country yesterday.

It looks like it has happened. As the precip has passed through the country, a bit of a wraparound has developed, looking at the radar. If there is a central low pressure area, I would surmise that it's in south Dublin/North Wicklow and just pushing into the Irish Sea now.

What is more surprising is the numerous reports coming in from many central/midland counties about heavy rain turning to snow in the past hour or so. This little system must be pulling down some cold air from aloft???
