    Hey Everyone,

Congrats to you all, found out a week & a half ago that I'm pregnant with my second, my little girl just turned 3 so she is only dying for a little brother or sister. I'm living abroad so getting a dating soon for my due date, from my own calculations its 12th July. Can't wait.

Feeling grand, just super tired and I want to cut my boobs off but so far so good. Had a rough pregnancy last time around so I have my fingers crossed I have a better go this time!

Hope everyone is feeling well :-)
Congrats chuckster! We were in the November 13 group together! I'm a little ahead of you this time in the June group!!
Hey Briarpatch how are you!!! aw I was wondering if I would see any ladies from the last group!! how are you feeling? I dont know about you but I feel like it was forever ago that I was pregnant and I've completely forgotten about newborn babies haha. Congratulations!!!!
I was going to ask all the other ladies who are on their second or more kids how they are expanding? I saw one mention of a bump already.... I definitely feel like stuff is moving out already and I'm now in leggings all the time and clothes that hide my stomach. Last time I had no sign of a bump til about 25 weeks.. though I know first is different. I also picked up maternity clothes in the black Friday sales... mostly comfy work trousers.

    I'm going to Wexford.

Currently lying in bed, debating whether to actually get up & make myself sick to see if that will help. Sorry if TMI.
you poor thing... I was the same last pregnancy and I second the don't let yourself get hungry and cold fruity drinks advice. Iused to have apple juice with sparkling water every morning ... it didnt stop it but definitely kept it at bay so I could function. Also munch on crackers & philadelphia if you cant stomach it.
Ginger supplements too, just hang in there, i hope it gets better for  you!

Hi Jaja, are you going thru a satellite clinic of one of the maternity hospitals by any chance? I didn't get any scans except the 20-22 week anomaly and one other at the end to check fluids and placenta as I was overdue. I went private at 12 weeks, found it was for my reassurance more than anything else but will do so again. I don't know if I would get a 9 week scan unless you had worries about if it was ectopic or if you had bleeding or discharge you are worried about, or if a doc recommended it.

Orangetaster, the anomaly scan is where they check the baby is developing as normal as best they can. This is the scan where they check organ development and if they see any issues may refer you on to a specialist.

Hi Comongethappy, thanks for coming back to me. I'm not going through a satellite clinic, I'm attending Holles St, and I think they normally don't do a 12 week scan, but my doctor reckons given my age they will. The scan at 9 weeks comes as part of the panorama test, so its not extra, its just part of the process, so I'll be getting that anyway. I'm just trying to assess whether I should also book another private scan at 12 weeks or if it will be enough to have the one at 9 weeks. I'll try and push for the mini scan in the hospital anyway at my 13 week appointment. Just trying to figure out if I need to book in privately for another one.

I would hold off booking one for the moment, if you're getting one at 9 weeks, your mind should be pretty much put at ease anyway. If you don't get one at your 13 week appointment, you could always book one at that stage.

Thanks ncmc, that's what I think I'll do alright. Will chat to them about it too at my 9 week appointment and see what they say.

I know Ive totally forgotten all about babies! We've been out of nappies here for months now it'll be a shock going back to the beginning again! I'm grand have the sickness again which is even harder when you already have one to look after! I found my stomach thickened almost straight away anf my trousers woukdnt close but no bump yet although I expect it won't be long coz i had a c section last time so stomach muscles aren't the best at sucking things in anymore!

I'm in the June group but I'm public in rotunda, I rang them myself to book in and had my appointment in the post 2 days later so maybe give them a call to follow up!

Thanks - will do that tomorrow!

Booked in for Private scan on the 23rd Dec and the anomaly on the 27th Feb.

Starting to show now, worried about people figuring it out at work. Ideally I would like to wait to tell my manager after my end of year review sometime in Jan, will be my first year review with the company and it's with a new manager.

How are all you ladies feeling?

  • Registered Users Posts: 46 Orangetaster85

How is everyone ? Getting a few pains here and there kinda like cramps.. I hope it's all normal. Might of over done it with hanging the decorations! Really finding it hard to find anything comfortable to wear!! Plus eating Nutella and toast all day isn't happening!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,272 ✭✭✭RiseToMe

Wife had a 7 week scan today and we seen and heard the heartbeat!

She hasn't got morning sickness per say but is just feeling slightly queasy more a less all the time. Cramps also!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Shelly.2017

Hi everyone. Congratulations! Am 9 weeks. Second pregnancy. My first child is 8 so big age gap! Feeling the odd cramp also. Completely normal. My only complaint at the moment is exhaustion!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

Yeah the cramps are totally normal, just everything stretching to make room for baba! As long as they're not piercing or accompanied by spotting, it's nothing to worry about. I'm the same with clothes, I'm bate into my work trousers, can't wait to get home into my jammies every day!

Congrats risetome and Shelly, Wow, 8 year age gap, you must feel like it's your first time again!

I think my nausea is easing, but the tiredness is something else. I tried to go in to the loo in work to close my eyes for a couple of minutes today but someone came in and we only have one cubicle!

Had my viability scan on sunday, found out i was actually a bit ahead of what id thought so new due date is the 13th. Still waiting on hosp appointment. Was really hoping to get in and have another scan before we announce at christmas (if we dont have another scan we will hold off on announcing-if i can get this bloat that makes me look 6 months preg under control!!)

Also just got my start date for new job and its not til feb which means i will be 17/18 weeks be start date which is going to make for a very awkward first day id say

    Congratulations everyone!!
Seems a bit of a shock all round. It was such a struggle to fall preggers the first time, we weren't expecting it, until I missed my period and lo and behold we were 2-3 weeks gone. Almost 9 weeks pregnant now, due 15th July. Already have a 2 year old..so bracing ourselves for a newborn and terrible twos next year! We managed the timing pretty crazily. We are relocating back to Dublin after a spell in London (6 years), just before Christmas. I finish my job this month, no other job lined up and now I am pregnant. Couldn't have planned it better except it will be a struggle without maternity pay, I wouldn't have qualified anyway I don't think.

    Congratulations Stacyfeldi!

Had an early scan this morning, saw the little bean standing on its head! Heard the heartbeat and all seems to be going as it should. Feeling relieved now and starting to get really excited!

    Hope everyone is feeling well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

Good stuff jaja, can't wait for my scan, it's still two weeks away and it feels like ages :( I'm beginning to freak out a bit too cos I feel I'm huge already and I've heard about two women lately being pregnant with twins so I'll be glad to hear that there's only one in there!

Welcome new members and congrats on the great news!

10 weeks today, told a couple people I run a play group with as we need to book soon for next Year and there will be a couple of us out for a while, so not sure if we can keep it going.

In my maternity pants now, just couldn't stand the pressure on my stomach and I am showing quite a bit, I would say now I have a bump like I did at 16 weeks last time. A good tip for early pregnancy ladies is to loop an elastic hairband in the hole of your jeans and then loop it around the button to give a bit more stretch. Great when you are too small for maternity but your pants are a bit too snug.

I have been feeling ill in the mornings and running late to work, but I always make the time up over lunch or in the evening. I have a one to one Monday and curious if my manager will say anything. I am hoping to hold off saying anything till 12 weeks but might have to tell him then.

Hopefully this isn't the wrong place to ask this as a first time expectant father (I know there is a fathers thread but you guys are probably more knowledgeable!), but I have a basic question please and didn't want to start a new thread.

When talking about pregnancy and how far along things are, when you hear 8 weeks, or 12 weeks, is this always just counted from the first day of the last period, so not related to likely conception date? This is what it seems to be from my research but just want to clarify.

Using this metric, my wife is 8.5 weeks in, and we have an initial scan this Thursday going private in the Rotunda. Can we expect to see a heartbeat? I know that it really does depend, but the when to start counting from and how this relates to information available is my main question. According to online stuff the baby will be due in late July, so lots of nerves and excitement in equal measure.

Hi 5starpool, yes her due date is calculated from the first day of her last period and not from the date of conception. You can usually see the heartbeat from week 6 onwards so if your dates are correct you should definitely see a heartbeat at 8.5 weeks. Has your wife been to her gp to confirm the pregnancy? They will normally give you an estimated due date. Huge congratulations to you both!

Thanks for the quick answer scarbouro :)

Yes, she was at the GP last week where the GP said 7 weeks (give or take) but based on the same info that we have anyhow and we were both somewhat confused despite reading about the fudge with dates anyhow which is why I wanted to double check with you guys. We'll get the first official due date this Thursday I believe all being well.

We can't wait to start telling people, and I'm looking forward to telling my mother especially as my father passed away 2 weeks ago so she could do with a bit of a boost. The first grandchild in nearly 17 years would do that for her I hope! It will be her parents first grandchild so plenty to be excited about there too of course.

I'm very sorry for your loss. That must be especially hard on your poor mam so close to Christmas. This will definitely give her something to smile about!

Yes you will definitely get a more accurate due date when they measure the fetus at your scan. Exciting times ahead!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

So sorry for your loss 5starpool, very hard losing your father so close to Christmas and with the baby news, you must just be up and down like a rollercoaster. Yes the weeks are counted from your last period as it’s an easier date to tie down than the exact date of conception. Due to different cycle lengths, it’s more accurate to go with date of last period. You should definitely see a heartbeat at 8.5 weeks, so fingers crossed your scan goes well on Thursday. And as Scarboura says, they will be able to give an accurate due date based on the measurements at the scan.

I really regret not getting an early scan now, the time is just dragging now and I’m finding it difficult trying to keep it secret, I’ve almost blabbed it a couple of times! But my scan is next Thursday, so it’s not really worth getting an early one at this stage.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get maternity work trousers? Preferably with side extenders rather than the big over the bump ones? I got a pair in New Look last time, but I’ve had a look at the usual stores and all I can really see is jeans and casual trousers. Hoping to do a bit of shopping in the sales.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,753 ✭✭✭comongethappy

5starpool, I am very sorry for your loss, but congratulations on the good news. I was able to hear the heartbeat at 8.5 weeks, but only see it at 8. So depending on the accuracy of dates ( I am not 100%) , you may not quite hear it but you should see it.

Nmnc, yeah new look really have a lot less options for maternity trousers than they used to. I can only find one pair of skinny under bump online. The only other place I can think of to order reasonably priced maternity wear is asos. But it is a pain when you can't try it on in a shop.

I picked up baby's heartbeat twice last night on my angel sounds doppler. It was very clear. I bought it on my last pregnancy. I wasn't sure if I'd manage to find it at 10 weeks. Very strong sound of galloping horses, so lovely to hear.

I had a go using my doppler last night, no luck unfortunately. It's only a cheapie one I got off Ebay so wasn't expecting too much! I was sure I felt movement last night, but I know it's too early, so it was prob just wind :D
