I've told everyone at this stage. But I know what you mean, it seems a long way away!

When is your wedding? If it's soon, you might get away with a dress in a size up or a stretchy fabric. Would you consider buying second hand? I got a lovely Seraphine dress for my SIL wedding on eBay for about €25. Asos have a good selection.

I was very worried about introducing my dog to my daughter. She was a very petted 8 year old when DD arrived and she has never been good with kids. to be honest, there was never an issue. When DD was a baby, the dog passed no remarks and as she got older, the dog was used to her. I also trained my daughter to give the dog her space and not be in her face the whole time. I still wouldn't trust the dog 100% cos you never can with a dog, so I just make sure they're not left alone. But for the most part, they just ignore each other!

Hi Ladies, all good here too! 14+2 .. Feeling pretty good and have pretty much told everyone now at this stage too. I'm getting really tired though of people saying - 'oh I knew', or 'I had thought you were'.. I'm like..I don't think I've gained that much weight!! (Maybe I do look like I enjoyed the mince pies a bit too much!) One person person at work straight out said to me - 'oh I was wondering, but I thought it might just be Christmas'... so you're basically just saying I look fat. Thanks!

    Anyway...!

No experience on introducing a dog to a baby, sorry Orangetaster.

Sorry to intrude the thread but I just wanted to say congrats to you July ladies! I was you this time last year & had my now 6 month old on July 8th 2016! It's mad to think this time last year I was posting the same things as you and now I'm changing nappies etc!! Enjoy it all (apart from the yuckie sickness!). It really goes so fast! Even the fact he is 6 months already is madness!!
    I miss being pregnant!!
I hope it all goes really well for you. 🙏

    Hi all,

I'm expecting for the 10th of July, still no bump or anything so doesn't feel real yet! Just wondering what people are doing about the anomaly scan. I'm going public to cork and don't know am I getting one or not? And if not I would pay for one!

Hope everyone else is feeling well in the second trimester

What age are you? I was told that anatomy scans were only given to women over 39 or with history in the family of certain defects which is scandalous. I will be 38 when the baby is born, I'm half thinking of ringing them and seeing if there's any chance of getting one based on my age. If I don't get one, I think I might pay for one, it's an added expense I could do without but I think it would be worth the peace of mind.

I'm only 30 but I would have a high BMI, not obese but could be by the end of the pregnancy! I know, it's still younger women who have more children with birth defects and it's just about being prepared. It just seems to be pot luck because at my booking visit they couldn't say yes or no for definite. I heard of one woman who was told she would have one, then didn't and when she went to get one private they were booked out (could just be hearsay) and so would have been closer to 30 weeks by the time she could have got it done. I am willing to pay if I need to but I'd rather save the money too

I thought everyone was given an anomaly scan at 20 - 22 weeks. I know some hospitals don't give the 12 week scan but I thought you'd definitely get the big one. I know all the Dublin maternity hospitals do it and Portlaoise hospital too no matter what age, medical history ect.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

CUMH don't do a full anatomy scan at 20 weeks unless you're high risk. You do get a mini scan with the doctor at 20 weeks but not near as detailed. It's disgraceful that where you live decrees whether you get one or not.

There is actually a petition going around on change.org and has a lot of postings on FB to get the government to make anomaly scans mandatory in all hospitals. There have been a few cases where fetal abnormalities could have been caught with a scan and delivery managed better with surgical team on standby saving babies lives.

I think it's something no mother should have to pay for. I would push to see if you can get one done, otherwise go private but definitely sign the petition if it's something you feel strongly for. Oh and congrats!

Thank you! I don't think it has really sunk in yet. Yes I have read a lot about cumh in the paper recently, it does sound like they want to provide the service for everyone but as always resources/staffing is the issue. And because a lot are paying for private scans the hse probably feel they can get away with it. I will sign that petition, I'm in the fortunate position I can pay for scans but for people who can't afford it, it must be a real dilemma

Hi everyone, how is everyone feeling? Time seems to be flying by thank God. 19 Weeks this week. I have a consultant appointment next week and then my anomaly scan at 22 weeks. One of the team has written me down for an elective section but still need to get that confirmed by the consultant but she can't see why I wouldn't be given one. Probably means a June Baby if they bring me in at 39 weeks.

Any movement yet? I have a few flutters/movement's in the evening when I'm sitting down relaxing. Nothing major though.

Scarbouro, glad you were able to get the section this time around. :)

I have a Gp appt Thursday, I am going to ask for a referral to a dermatologist to see if there is anything they can do to help my skin. I have clusters of cystic acne on my face and it's so sore, waking up at night with it. I am not expecting miracles as I know there isn't anything I can take but maybe they could reduce the inflammation some. I had it last time around and the gp just said oh well, it's just part of pregnancy. But last time it came on later and wasn't this severe, even the facialist wouldn't touch it
    . :(

Big scan on the 27th, can't wait to find out what I am having!

God that sounds extremely painful. I hope they can give you something to help reduce the inflammation. My own skin has been bad this time around too, never suffered with it on my last pregnancy.

Very exciting finding out the sex! I think we're going to hold off but I don't know if I will when the day comes!

Hi girls! I'm doing fine! No movement yet its my first pregnancy so will prob be a few more weeks! I'm 17 now! Work with children and got 3 kicks in the back by one of them in a tantrum so got a huge fright but there was no harm done and my duties have been changed so I will have minimal contact with him if any! Opened my eyes to how careful I have to be though!! Have an apt with my gp today then my booking in visit on March 1st and big scan 2 weeks later! I'll be 22 weeks then! Can't wait but hoping it goes well! That acne sounds very sore! You poor thing! Hopefully something can be done even to help you sleep! Hope everyone else is keeping well x

So glad you are getting your section Scarbouro!

Very sorry to hear about your skin Comongethappy, I hope the dermatologist can provide some relief. My skin has been pretty bad too, I have rosacea which has definitely been exacerbated by the pregnancy. Not much I can do just hoping it doesn't keep getting worse!

I'm feeling good these days, still have a weird taste in my mouth, which I've had since the beginning and that gets worse after I eat, but other than that I'm grand. Have a doctor's appointment next week and then the anomaly scan on the 3rd of March - so looking forward to that. Hope all goes well!

Makes me so angry though that not all women get this scan, that its just down to where you live. Maternity care should be standardised across all hospitals.

Hope all you ladies are doing well x

Is anyone feeling movement yet? Im starting to feel 'flutters' over the last few days. I thought I'd be kinda freaked by movements but it's actually reassuring and lovely!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,753 ✭✭✭comongethappy

Hey jaja, yep been having flutters here for a few weeks as it's my 2nd, first I didn't feel until 22 weeks

Saw the dermatologist, and have a plan in place for my skin. On a pregnancy safe antibiotic, and have azeliac acid skin gel which is pregnancy safe but itches and burns like mad, apparently can take skin a while to get used to it but I think I see a slight improvement already. She is also checking with Holles St if I can take a low dose steroid to help control inflammation.

And everything I was using one my skin was wrong. Apparently while it is acne, it's closer to roeseca and everything ance specific I was using was only irritating it more. So just basic and gentle and hopefully it will be better when I see her in two weeks.

One week till the big scan, hope you are all doing well!

My wife is about 18 weeks now, big scan in just under 3 weeks. No flutters or anything yet, but the bump is getting more noticeable. Been a pretty uneventful pregnancy so far for her thankfully, but she has a stomach bug today and got sick for the first time since she found out she was pregnant, so not feeling the best.

How long does that big scan typically take? We are private at the rotunda, but I think we'll have to be in the public hospital for this scan I think? Can anyone shed any light on what happens for it so that I know if I need to take a half day off work or can work around it. Ta.

Glad you are getting some help with your skin comeongethapy. I've had rosacea now for a few years and was on antibiotics with it for over a year. I find the le roche posay rosaliac range really good and calming for the skin. Also some foods like tomatoes, bananas, chocolate, and caffeine really effect it. But everyone is different..I'm sure you'll find your own way with it. Hope you get relief anyway..I can empathise with how sore it can be! X

If you're private in the Rotunda your scan will be in the Grainne suite not the main hospital so check in at the private reception and they'll bring you down! The scan itself should take about half and hour give or take. Who is your consultant? We're going to Jennifer Donnelly (popped in from August 2017 group )

We're with Ronan Gleeson. Everything working out well so far anyhow, we've had a couple of visits and scans on the machine in his office which isn't great quality but still good to see progress.

We're an early appointment in 2 weeks so I should be able to work around it rather than take any time off which is good. She'll have no such worries obviously as she'll take the time she needs and get cover.

Had the anamoly scan yesterday, and baby looking happy and healthy. Just have to go back for another scan a bit later to check placenta position and possibly growth if I am put on a steroid on Thursday. And they said it's a girl, MIL delighted she gets to buy pink :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 793 ✭✭✭jaja321

Had the anomaly scan today, and also went well. It was so reassuring.

Like you comeongethappy, I have to go back for a scan at 34 weeks just to check the placement of the placenta, they said it looked ok, but couldn't clearly see where it ended, so they want to just double check that when I'm bigger and my bump is higher.

  • Registered Users Posts: 443 ✭✭scarbouro

That's Great news ladies, glad to hear the scans went well.

We also had our scan yesterday and I have a low lying placenta too. Back for another scan at 34 weeks. I have also been put on Innohep injections daily until after the baby is born due to suspected blood clots. I am being monitored by the high risk clinic in the Coombe now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,753 ✭✭✭comongethappy

Glad to hear all went well jaja :)

Oh no scarbouro, hope all goes OK but at least you are being closely monitored. Can I ask how they suspected blood clots? Sorry, just one of my fears and if I start taking this steroid it says I can be a greater risk.

I have been very breathless from early on in the pregnancy and at 16 weeks I was admitted to hospital with really bad chest pain when I was breathing in or or out. The pain was very sharp.i thought it was a chest infection. They done a number of tests and a few of them came back high for PE's. I was sent to see the high risk team in the Coombe then. I find climbing the stairs hard and i become out of breath doing the most simplest of thing's.

Oh wow scarbouro, that sounds scary, but so good to be diagnosed and have a treatment plan in place and be monitored in the high risk unit. Hopefully the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly from here on out!

My wife had her anomaly scan today at around 21 weeks. Thankfully everything looking perfect, back in 4 weeks for another consultant visit. A great relief to get that out of the way and brilliant to have some baby shaped pictures.

How is everyone getting on? I feel like a whale at the moment! Bump has really popped out. 26 weeks today. I was in with the high risk clinic yesterday. They said that we will speak about weather I'll have a section or induction at the next appointment in 4 weeks. I won't be allowed go into labour by myself because I'm on the blood thinners. It will be nice to know what the plan is. Also have another scan at 34 weeks to see if placenta has moved up.

    Hope everybody is feeling good!
