Shaving soap recommendation

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for shaving soap for my husband for a Christmas gift. Something that little bit special that you would consider a must-try product. Thanks

Not the best person to respond as I only have a few soaps. Of the ones I have Proraso is the best by a margin.

Is your husband a Safety Razor shaver or regular cartridge? Either way a soap is a fantastic Idea for a present. However if he's new to wet shaving and has no other soaps then a brush would be a good idea too

I'd say the responses could be pretty wide ranging too. I personally like the DR Harris range in creams but I've not tried their soaps yet.

Great, thanks for the replies. I actually got him his first Muhle safety razor and as badger brush from shaving.ie last Christmas.

Since then he's been trying a few different soaps, nothing too fancy. So I'd like to get him something a bit more luxurious as a gift. I've heard Catie's Bubbles soaps are good but seem to be very difficult to get here and I'm not sure i fancy shipping all the way from the states.

Check out http://www.maggardrazors.com/ who have a good selection and shipping isn't bad (as little as $6 for 1 soap and marked such that you needn't fret about customs). It's also the best place to get a wide range of samples.

Catie's Bubbles is good, but Barrister & Mann is better and the top of my list not only for performance but for interesting scents. Other good choices are Beaver WoodWrite, Dr John, Henri et Victoria, & Mickey Lee.

Cold River Soap Works has very classy packaging and a good formula but is better for those who prefer lighter scents.

beardybrewer made some good recommendations. I get soap sent from the states all the time it's not a problem. It takes two weeks, just try and keep it under 30 euro so you don't get taxed.

If you go for Catie's Bubbles this is the one he is most popular for. And, it is good.

Mike's natural soaps is by far my all time favorite . Most of the time his soap is sold out and it can take a little longer to get your order but it's well worth the wait. He has Barbershop available now and pre order for Bay Rum. Both excellent.

Le Pere Lucien Cedar & Patchouli. His soap is top class and it comes in a really cool tin. The Cedar & Patchouli is the only scent I like of his though. The others not so much.
