Just wondering if anyone else has had what I would describe as dodgy looking people (have had 2 in less than 12 hours) calling to the door in kcokcnacarra area collecting for concern charity? Feel like they are casing the place.........

A group were doing the rounds in North Galway recently - using a sign begging for a deaf brother or something. Something like that?

No, last night a woman early 30s maybe, with a card poster with African child on it. Got very flustered when I answered the door, you'd imagine she would have been drumming out her spiel by the time she came to ours. Today my wife didn't hear the doorbell but kids saw a man at the door looking in the front window at them.... Again collecting for concern..... I am concerned

I'd imagine they're meant to be raising for Concern not causing concern…

The guards will tell you when you ring the station to tell them about your Concerns.

I didn't actually realise they were paid, makes sense though. I had two sets of Concern guys over the year and they really were not nice types. One guy was really aggressive when I didn't contribute and the other guy made really sleazy remarks, made me really uncomfortable and was really pushy. I'm not surprised to see they have targets to hit.
Whoever is picking the guys they're sending out is really not doing a good job.

This is why you never give money to charity muggers.

But how do you get in touch with them?

The guards in your area should know who the contact point is. You normally fill in a simple form and pay a subscription. Ours was 20 euro three years ago, nothing since. If you see anything suspicious, report to guards, text the community phone, they in turn send the text to all who are part of the scheme.

That is if there is a group in your area.

If you really don't have your local garda station in your phone directory already, then there's search thing here: http://www.garda.ie/stations/default.aspx

Do all your posts have the same veiled ridicule?

I myself do not have "the local garda station in my phone directory already". Really. And the poster asked about how to contact neighbourhood watch so he obviously didn't know the link.

I don't know what extra you're reading in Mrs OB's post here, but I suggest you politely get out from jumping down her throat, and post something constructive rather than taking a swing at a fellow poster.
