    Hey lads,

Looking for a projector and screen for my living room. My budget for the projector, screen and accessories is around £700. Here is the details:

My sofa is approx 5 meters away from where the screen will be

The screen should be ceiling mounted and retractable

My ceiling height is 2.45 m

The projector will be wall mounted or ceiling mounted and 5 meters away from the screen (projector will be directly above sofa)

The projector will be on the opposite side of the room to all of my equipment, i.e. satellite receiver, DVD player, speakers (through amp), android box, playstation etc,

I will need a way of connecting the above equipment to the projector. For example if I want to watch something on Kodi from the android box and play sound through the speakers, or watch something on the satellite box again through the speakers. (I dont mind trailing a lead across the floor for this as I will mainly be using the projector for movies and sport, the TV will remain as the normal source for general watching)

Any suggestions please? I am looking for delivery to Dublin also thanks lads

OK so I've been doing some reading..

I like the look of the BenQ W1070 and I would like a 92" screen.

I understand placing the projector 5 meters from the screen will not work as the imagine will be massive.

I am looking at mounting the projector on the ceiling closer to the screen, am I right in saying 2.5m from lens to screen is correct for this screen size?

Also my ceiling height is 2.45 meters is this OK?

Can you give me your best Bordie price on:

    BenQ W1070
92 inch ceiling mounted retractable screen
Ceiling bracket (ceiling height 2.45 meters)
Whatever cables I need to connect the projector to my equipment as detailed above - 10m cables are required

    Thanks lads

    Glen,

thanks for the posts and apologies for the delay getting back to you - we are having a bit of a mental week :D

Your calculation on the screen > PJ distance is broadly correct for the BenQ W1070 - I'd say just over 2.6Mtrs between screen and PJ and you will have a 92" diagonal image.

In terms of connections the W1070 has two HDMI inputs but I'm guessing that may not be enough for you and anyway generally we would recommend that you connect your sources via an AV amp anyway (you do mention that you have an amp - can you tell us if its a stereo amp or is it an AV amp with HDMI inputs?)

If you do already have a HDMI amp then you should connect all your inputs into your AV Amp and then take a single HDMI out of your Amp ' monitor out' HDMI output directly to your BenQ W1070 - here is some pricing based on that set-up..

    BenQ W1070 - £499
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-12120-w1070.aspx
    Optoma DS9020 92" screen - £89.95
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-11803-optoma-ds9092pmg.aspx
    Sanus VMPR1 - Projector mount - £79.95
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-200143-vmpr1.aspx

Normal retail inc delivery on that is £676 - we can do a Boardie deal on that bundle at £649 including delivery.

If you need a decent HDMI cable ( and no matter what anyone says to you about all HDMI cables being the same, don't believe them - especially when it comes to projector links and 'handshaking issues'!) - if you still need a 10M cable I'd recommend the QED Performance Active 10M cable - this is an Active cable check it out here:
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201357-performance-active-hdmi-10m.aspx

The 10Mtr QED performance active is £154 retail but if you are adding it into the bundle e can do the complete bundle at £770 including delivery,

Thanks again and keep us posted on the above,

Thanks John, I drove out to the store yesterday and the lads sorted me out with a nice boardie deal for the BenQ W1070, Optima 92" screen and ceiling bracket.

The screen and projector are mounted and all I just need to get a 10m hdmi cable from the projector to my equipment and a power supply sorted and away she goes.

Question for you, I will be using a number of different sources to the projector such as a WeTek Play for Kodi, Xtrend satellite receiver for general TV and Playstation for Blurays. Is there any easier way than swapping the hdmi lead going to the projector and optical cable from my stereo receiver (Marantz MCR510) to each source depending on which one I am using at that time?

HI Glen, many thanks for the post

You would need some form of HDMi switch, which most AV amps nowadays would do for you, if you wanted to go down that route rather than a stereo amp, or with a quick search online there are some basic HDMi switch boxes available there?

    Cheers

Thanks Brian I will look into a hdmi switch and optical switch too. Do you guys stock any?

Another question for you, I have a pair of QAcoustic 2020i speakers, I mainly use them for listening to music but now that I have the big screen I will definitely be watching more movies. Would I be better off getting rid of the speakers and getting a good quality sound bar?

Unfortunately no we don't stock any of the HDMi switches

With regards to the speakers, the 2020 are a very nice all round speaker so should serve you well on the movies too. The only advanatge I would say would be on some of the soundbars giving you surround sound, the like of the Yamaha YSP2500 at £499

But on overall sound quality I don't think you'd get better sound from a soundbar less than that to cover both music and movies

    Regards

    GlenQ,

thanks for the posts - we CAN get you HDMI switches and Matrix no problem - unfortunately we don't currently have them listed on our .ie site ( hope to get that sorted asap) but you can check them out on our cousins site over at http://www.richersounds.com/search/blustream and of course we will at least match any of the UK prices.

Blustream delivery to us in Ireland is normally rapid - and the quality is tip-top!

Thanks again for the biz - its much appreciated and keep us posted if we can assist,

Thanks John, do you have optical switches too?

Question for you, I have the projector up and running now it's great but I have one gripe.. When playing content onto the screen I can notice the finish material of the screen especially on bright colours. What I mean is the screen is obviously a soft material not a hard LCD screen so when the when image is projected onto the screen I can see the material especially in white colours, it's like a reflection off the screen. When I go up close it's like the screen is sparkling for want of a better word.

It's not a focus issue or anything like that it's like a reflection of the light from the projector from the screen. It's not crazy obvious but I noticed it straight away.

Is this how all screens and projectors are or is there something I can do to make the image more crystal?

    Thanks

HI Glen, apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
It's difficult to say without having seen the issue, but with different levels of screen, there can be a vast difference in screen quality
The Optoma DS9092 we use in our demo room, and have sold a large amount, and at the price point is a great screen.

I'll have a look at ours when I'm back in the shop tomorrow if that's ok, but I haven't noticed any great issue with it before to be fair

    Regards
    Brian

    Hi Glen,

apologies for the delay - couple of mad days here!

On the finish material of the screen - unfortunately that is not something that we can cure - you can get screens with different finishes and really good screens will be either fixed or tab tensioned which really helps the image but this feature would not be available at the £79 price-point of the Optoma DS9092 ( Like this:)
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/projector-screens/sapphire/sfsc203/saph-sfsc203

To be honest whatever screen you use if you go really close to the screen you will see what the screen material is when you are projecting light colours - this should have nothing to do with focus! Most PJ images are designed to be viewed from a reasonable distance and not really close to the screen.

If you wanted a 'smoother' image, you only option would be to upgrade the screen or of course you could use a hard surface ( ie a wall) ensure its smooth and use a specialist screen paint to give you a slightly reflective surface - that's an option some Customers take but its not massively popular.

Apologies again for the delay and keep us posted,

Thank Brian, I'm sure the screen is fine I'd just like to know if what I'm seeing which is basically the texture of the screen especially in white colours is normal for that screen and if I can get a clearer picture by upgrading to a better screen.

    Glen,

the DS9092 is a textured screen and it does have reflective properties which is essential to promote a bright image - if you want to eliminate any texture, especially when you are seeing a bright image, the only way is to change the surface that you are projecting onto - you could try a little experiment by projecting onto a piece of quality photographic paper stuck onto your existing screen ( please don't use anything that will mark the screen)

We are happy to take back your existing screen, but there really is no resolution or way to cover up the texture of the screen or indeed any surface that you project onto - at the end of the day the PJ is a light source and in light passages it will show up the detail of any surface you are projecting onto.

That's for the explanation John its what I figured just wanted to make sure.

Would the 92" Sapphire SWS200WSF-ASR2 be any different?

Lads, I don't mean to be a pest but could you please advise if the sapphire screen would be better?

    Hi Glen_Quagmire.

Apologies for the delay , its been crazy busy here at the store.

The Sapphire screen would be very similar. I would need to check with Sapphire on Monday regarding the finish of the screen to check if it is the same as the Optoma.

Sapphire screens come made to order so I don't have one here at the store I can check.
