Yes I know that Jawgap, If I not mistaken your an ex military chap, Would you think he was a brave lad in doing what he did. Not the overall aims just this act.

No, foolish and foolhardy. I think you have to be incredibly weak minded to allow yourself to be manipulated to the point where you'd blow yourself up in the manner he did.

What military necessity did his death serve?

A brave person would've told them to get lost and stood up to a system that is disgustingly wasteful of human life.

I often wonder if there's a school for training suicide bombers :pac:
One without glass in the windows and holes in the wall perhaps.

Dunno.. but I wonder did his car insurance
quote go up much this year.

Khalid : Occupation. . suicide bomber.

Insurance company .. let me check with supervisor ?

Does anyone think here that he was brave to die in what he believed in ? He was a soldier in ISIS, and died fighting for them ?

I am just asking about this instance.

Nobody knows how much choice he had in the matter for this instance.

I get the impression that they're not the sort of organization to say "ah sure grand. No worries" if you tell them you don't want to do something after they order you to do it

He might have been all naive and idealogical to go over there - "won't happen to me". What are you going to do when you are there and get your order? Refuse and be killed as a traitor or do it and dying "with honour" as a "martyr". Either way you die.

He just committed suicide in a way that could also harm other people. I think it's braver to always do your best to stay alive than kill yourself in any instance. Even if you are putting yourself in real danger to save/protect friends or family, you should still try to stay alive.

I think he was a useful idiot, or maybe not as useful as he taught he was gona be in the end,
And like sombody already mentioned, he was probably left with two options, die a quick death by strapping explosives to himself, or die in agony by being set on fire or rolled over in a tank,
Obviously these idiots from the west are going to be asked to do these kind of things first,

Just watched this 2010 US doc about his life as a radicalised muslim in London and then Pakistan after he fled England.

The guy was a certified nutjob, there's such an inevitability to how it would end after watching this. Angry, deluded, brainwashed, full of his own shyte.

I know a few journalists who met him when he was back in Ireland around 2011, talking crap about killing Obama, he was well-known for his shyting on and they thought he was all talk. He certainly had the gift of the gab anyway the fcuker.

I'd say there'll be some chat about him at Garda HQ and the Directorate of Military Intelligence today. Did they even know he was in Iraq?

I just looked at this in full, He certainly could talk the talk and well believed in what he was doing, At the end of it he goes of and joins the Taliban to fight western forces in Afghanistan. This was 2007 so he there nine years.

And just another point looking at that video , there is no way he stupid, he knows exactly what he doing and what he wants to do to further his aims. I would think he went very willingly on that suicide mission yesterday/today.

Reading his backstory, it sounds like he was brainwashed in Saudi prison and unfortunately ended up living the rest of his life like that.

Deplorable thing to do though, brainwashed or not.

There's a thin line between insanity and wilful brainwashing. We see people do things and think they're insane and then discover it's because of some twisted logic that makes sense to them? Are they insane or just brainwashed by themselves/others?

Take for example those girls who ran away to ISIS. They were normal girls. They did normal things. Somehow they convinced themselves that the ISIS "caliphate" is a wonderful nirvana where God's will is embodied in every action. There was more than enough information out there to counter this but they still fell hook line and sinker.

I think they wanted to be part of something bigger and to feel that their lives have purpose. They saw this and it caught their imagination. Bit by bit they started falling for the crap that ISIS spews and before long it was too late. Then they did something "crazy" when they went to Syria. I say crazy because lets face it, we'd consider anyone who wants to move to Syria to be bat **** crazy. But they weren't insane. They also weren't stupid. Academically they were very good. They were naive but that doesn't imply stupid as such.

There's not a whole lot going for foreign convert type Jihai's in the Islamic State is there?
They're typically the ones being rigged with explosives and blown to Allah whilst the indigenous radicalised scum stay at home raping the local women.

I would imagine it to be similar to kamikaze training where the pilots are taught to take off and fly a plane but never how to land!

I watched the LLS video. That type of "debate" wouldn't happen nowadays, 13 years on, that's for sure.

There was a lot of aggression from people in the audience and with what we know now, that wouldn't happen today because all it does is motivate other Islamic State sympathizers. It probably generated a lot of anti-Muslim sentiment among the Irish too. I think it shows that the West have learned a lot in dealing with the extremist Muslim threat but it highlights a lot of naivety back then too. We actually weren't aware the monster we were creating by allowing beliefs like that being given a national platform.

I hope there are no more of these IRAsis idiots like this Kelly guy. It does bring home the threat of the merger of dissident republicanism and warped Islam and the fact that both ideologies share a lot of the same sentiments. You can be sure he was not alone and I remember he was with another such 'Islamic' IRA idiot on the Late Late Show.

I remember this Kelly say on TV that he was an alter boy and drank alcohol before giving up drink to join so-called 'Islam' (in reality, he joined a hardline cult that kills people that has nothing to do with Islam, proper Irish nationalism or any other cause). Good riddance to him.

Wasn't he 'detained' while Barack Obama was in Ireland?

Some sort of house arrest or prevented from entering Dublin. A one off situation anyway.
