    hi,

is there any such thing as a decent NON smart TV now.

I have no interest in a smart tv. I have enough distractions already with phones, iPads, laptops etc.

So just looking for a TV that is NON smart.

    can you recommend one.

    From,

apologies for the delay getting back to you and thanks for your post.

TBH most decent TV's are smart these days and manufacturers are just using the same operating systems across their platforms so it may actually be more expensive for them to reverse engineer out the smart element on particular models.

I'm not sure what size you are looking at but Hisense have just introduced the 40" 40M2100 at £219 / €259:
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202294-hisense-40m2100.aspx

    and Samsung have the 40" 40K5100 at £279 / €399
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202197-ue40k5100.aspx

in large(ish) screen sizes thats all the non-smart that we stock unfortunately,

Thanks again and keep us posted,

    Best regards,

    Hi.

    Thanks.
Sorry, I should have been more accurate in my description. Looking for something about 55 inch.

But yeah, to echo the other poster...... the way the sterling is now. £279 equalling €399 is a bit Irish !

    Hi from_atozinc

On the pricing, there are a number of factors which determine the euro/sterling pricing, and it's not just a straight conversion at the daily rate. We have a fixed rate for web/mail order sales, local markets etc - You are free to pay in either currency, whichever suits you best

On the TV, once you get over 40", pretty much all TVs will have smart functions I'm afraid
    A decent entry level 55" would be the Hisense 55M5500 - http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202261-55m5500.aspx at £649 - a smart 55" 4k TV
or you could look at the Samsung UE55KU6020 - http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202300-ue55ku6020.aspx - a decent step up in 4k TV at £679

    Cheers
    Brian

    Guys,

as ever we try to be the most competitive in both NI and ROI and pretty uniquely we allow and encourage ( our website prompts you directly under our main banner!) Customers to pay in either Currency - sometimes € works out cheaper, most times at the moment GBP Sterling is cheaper - the choice is completely yours.

At risk of appearing as a slight luddite, which I'm really not, is there any such thing as a non-smart TV these days?

Probably looking for something around 40-inch, but wondering if it is even worth looking for non-smart.

    Hi AndrewJRenko.

    Many thanks for the post.

There are no 40" non smart TV's that I can think of unfortunately. It is pretty much as standard now. Of course you don't have to use the smart features if you do not want to.

There are also very very few 40" TV' on the market. The common size at the minute would be 43".

Philips have their basic 43PUS7556 priced at 329 Euro

Panasonic have a 40" but it is currently out of stock.

If you could go up to a 50" there is a fantastic deal on the Panasonic 50JX800 priced at 319 Euro

Or if you went all out the 58JX800 priced at 379 Euro

Thanks for getting back to me. I'd be happy to go to 43" or anything in that ballpark to get non-smart TV, if that were possible. It's not just about the features, it is about privacy. I really don't want Google or Amazon or others in my sitting room, with me having to pick through detailed legal conditions to work out what they are listening to or how they are sharing my data. If you have any other suggestions about achieving that goal, they would be very welcome.

Just a side issue - is there any sign of any movement to metric in your sector, given that the rest of the country went metric about fifty years ago?

    Hi AndrewJRenko.

Unfortunately there are no non smart TV's larger than a 28" that we can get our hands on.

To avoid the like of Google you could just not connect the TV to the internet and none of the smart features will be active.

You can also just switch these features off in the menu systems.

Thanks Kenny. I've heard reports of some devices that insist on the internet connection, so I was just a bit nervous about that.

    Hi AndrewJRenko.

You can just skip the section to connect to your router when setting the TV up. It is just the nature of where technology is going now where everything is voice activated and smart features are evolving more and more each year.

Even if an internet connect was required you can disable any of the voice activation features like Alexa and Google and still use the catch up TV apps, Netflix, Prime, Disney + etc.....
