Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seniors versus Juniors training event proposal

Since moderators have closed the thread where I originally made the following offer, I repeat it here (expanded) as a new thread.
ICU junior officer etc. please take note.

As one of the "auld fellas" going to the World Seniors next week, I would be happy to play against the new generation in a specially formatted event that could assist their training experience. Even if our ratings may be depressed now with the passing years, many of us were once 2100+ and have international experience.

There are several possible formats. Maybe:

    a) Clock simuls by three or four of us against groups of the best Under-12s with analysis of the games afterwards; this could easily be done during the junior championships after Christmas?

    and/or:

    b) a rapid tournament along Scheveningen lines, say, eight seniors (50+) against the same number of juniors (up to perhaps 14-year-olds), where each of the old guys plays each of the young ones over a weekend or 2-day holiday period. It would be important that the scores of the games were kept (either by means or live boards or somebody else taking down the moves) so that they can be analysed afterwards,

To be supplemented by a couple of lectures beneficial to the juniors, maybe by Alex Baburin and Sam Collins? Especially on endings where the juniors still tend to be weak.

The Senior players to get their expenses paid and lunches provided. Prizes for the best performing juniors.

No ratings at stake but some interesting games and beneficial to the juniors. Seniors can at least try out some new opening ideas.

Playing games where the opening is agreed in advance are another possibility that some trainers recommend.

Just as a quick mod note here - I've no problems with this proposals like being discussed. But there is an issue with discriminating against swathes of players purely on the basis of age (or indeed other factors such as gender, nationality, etc) and posts of that nature will be removed.
