Hi All, I have a friend who is travelling to Dublin from the USA for a few weeks and is wondering if it's possible to rent a decent quality road bike while he's here. Can anyone suggest anywhere that does rentals? Many thanks.

    Hey
www.biking.ie will be able to help, they rent MTBs or Road Bikes, touring or electric ones.
The closest from Dublin is Ticknock, but I think for road bikes they arrange deliveries and collections.

    Direct link.

If he wants one for a few weeks , at €30 per day rental, he would be better going to halfords and buying one :

Thanks Lads. I'll pass it on. I was hoping there'd be a few bike shops in Dublin that might do rentals, but hey ho.

A shop with a second hand section like Cycle superstore or wheelworx might do a deal on you "buying" a bike for a few weeks on the agreement of buying it back form you minus some cash a few weeks later? I know some surf shops do this with hard boards rather than their foamies as it has less insrance risk thant renting along with some other concerns.

I work in Donnybrook Bikes in Dublin, and there are two secondhand road bikes in stock at present - a Trek 1.1 (Shimano Claris 8-speed, smaller than average frame size) and a Kellys ARC50 with full Shimano 105 groupset (average sized frame). I'm not sure of the exact frame sizes, but if you're interested, drop in and we can confirm for you (I'm off tomorrow, but can confirm details on Tuesday if needed).

These all say they do rental, might be worth giving them a shout if Type 17's offer doesn't work out.

Thanks lads. I'll pass the details on. He's not due to arrive for a few weeks yet, but I'll send him your way to have a look at second hand bikes if retails don't work out.
