Buying an old corporation house. What to consider

    Hi,

We are currently considering bidding on an old Dublin corporation type house. The house is in it's original condition and will require a lot of work to bring up to modern standards.

Apart from that I was just wondering if there is anything in particular to look out for when purchasing these kinds of houses? Any structural things to be aware of, electrics, plumbing etc.

    Any opinions appreciated.

    Thanks

Electrics and plumbing are not really structural issues. Expect that the electrics will have to be replaced in total. Most likely the house will have to be replumbed and heating installed. An extension will probably be necessary. Most problems with these houses are poor extensions done in the past causing rot and damp.

Thanks. There's no extension on it anyway. We'd add one ourselves.

Assuming electrics, plumbing and heating would have to be done any rough idea how much it would cost rough ballpark figure? 15, 20k? Or more

About 20k would be middle of the road. A lot depends on the specification.

Thanks. Food for thought I guess. Hoping there wouldn't be any structural issues or any rot in joists etc and then we wouldn't mind forking out to upgrade the electrics, plumbing and heating.
