Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mixed raw and “formula” food.

A couple of months back I gave my retriever (nearly 2 years) some chicken with his food, cooked lean breast. Needless to say he loved it so it became a treat to give him chicken or beef, never raw but cooked in the oven for maybe 10-15 minutes. I mixed that with his “formula food” (Concept for Life). I adjusted his Concept for Life so the total does not exceed his recommended daily total.

Overall he was a very fit and healthy dog until May he had surgery on his cruciate ligaments (both legs in 5 months). I told my vet of my feeding arrangements but he seemed more keen to make sure I didn’t over feed him as he was not as mobile as normal. I'm curious to make sure mixing both does not diminish his nutrient quotas.

Question is do you pet owners mix raw/cooked with your normal “formula” feeds? Many thanks.

I sometimes mix raw with wet food and don't have any issues. Some people are of the opinion that the different digestion rates of the foods are bad or can cause problem but I don't check the rates of what I eat myself lol and I've never had a problem either!

I mix raw, wet & dry food combined with whatever they can steal all the time. I never have any issues. I just keep an eye on their overall conditon & reduce or increase their food as needed.

whenever we can we mix the food. when the new lad had problems all he could eat was boiled rice and cooked chicken breast with some carrots. if there are any pickings from the Sunday roast they get that also

I feed Acana (or Nutrivet) with raw mince added - just feed by eye. If he's lean and healthy then keep going as you are, if his weight is creeping up then reduced the amount you're giving
