Re Don and the Russian connections, listening to RTE today with it's Sunday short current affairs briefs, it seems Russian nationalists want the Alaskan sale to the US cancelled and it returned to them, with musicians penning songs to that effect. The Russian air force has increased the depth of its [unladen] bombers incursion into Alaskan [US] air space and for the first time included a fighter aircraft escort with the bombers. The US Military has reportedly stepped up its defences there, including at Elmendorf Air Force base.

The Alaskan connection doesn't end there, as it's very close to N/Korea and that country is seeking to increase its missile power. Leaving out China, Don might be faced with two tasks in relation to a "friendly" nation and to an unfriendly nation where it comes to direct US national interests. It seems the Alaskan oil fields had a new find last year, an estimated 10 Billion barrel oilfield.

To put the cap on it for Don, Sarah Palin [remember the GOP V/P hopeful and former Governor of Alaska] has been tweeting about the FBI and how [her words] choosing the next head of the FBI could have HUGE implications for the GOP.

As the reality of the healthcare repeal really sinks in a lot more people are going to start getting angry at Republicans.

I watched a F/B record of a town hall meet where the GOP Rep was getting a tongue-lashing from a healthcare worker who had two kids with disabilities and his wife was out of work, how if he was let go, and got a new job, he [and his family] would have no health insurance cover for 18 months. The Rep had to just stand there and take it when his voting on the repeal was read out, and how, when the 2018 voting came around, he would be made answer for his vote then. The health care worker seemed to have got a hint that his speech was to be ended and told the Rep that no one was going to take the mike from him til he had finished talking. The video was from the stage direction covering the crowd as well, either silent or applauding. A uniformed cop walked in from the back at that moment, listened for a minute or so and walked back out, letting things continue uninterrupted.

I've seen a video at what I presume is a town hall of a GOP member of congress who utters the phrase "no one will die, because they don't have healthcare." I mean he's written the tv ad for the democrats in 2018. I mean even if he believes what he said. He should know that his comments could be recorded.

    Edit: video included

Looks like the new "When it's a legitimate rape, the body shuts down" from the GOP.

Seems it's the nearest part of US land territory available to hit should one wish to lash out at "the enemy". One, in that regard, does what one can when one needs to make a stateman's statement. It's also the home of a politician with an alternative view on land mass location. It's a bit dated now though.

I hope your right but I would not be too overly optimistic. Almost the whole Republican party is laying supine on this whole scandal and showing little indication of doing otherwise so Trump will be able to continue with his coverup as long as that continues and they maintain total control of the federal government at all levels. Like I said I hope your right but I would not look at it as a fait acompli right now.

Also, some of those he defeated in the Primaries are waiting in the long grass.
Listening to one of Ted Cruz campaign team on CNN. She wasn't very supportive of Trump and his actions.

They keep him hot as long as they can get what they want from him and as long as their re-election chances are not affected. Only then they will start to move.

Many of the Republicans already know, this isn't going well. It may take the 2018 midterms for that to crystallize. They will know well before that but possibly won't have the gumption to do anything about it.

So it's up to the IC and the courts to press on.

What I'm hoping for is that no one creates an incident to take people's minds off him, give him another "the wall is needed" distraction claim and give him pause from creating the sinkhole that'll swallow him. The GOP might, just might, have prophets to give it a Bob Dylan the times they are a-changin' cry "Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled'

Because I'm an irish person and have experienced what the average US citizen is being put through by Don and the "entitled" I have mixed feelings about this, cynical when it comes to the "entitled" and their mindset and hopeful that the voters will this time kick Don and the "entitled" so far and hard down the road, their feet will never again touch earth.

I watched a lot of cbs news coverage on YouTube of the Nixon resignation at the weekend. Firstly, it was superb journalism with the likes of Cronkite, mudd, and others who weren't found wanting when the big news moment arrived.

I'm wondering if the trump situation gets to Nixon levels will the media of today be up to the challenge ? I'm afraid I have my doubts.

Why? You don't think that the media will be able to cover it?

I agree that there is clear bias in some reporting, but it seems to me that Trump has manged to persuade people that Fox news is actually legit and that anything else has an agenda.

I watched a lot of the Comey firing reporting and IMO, CNN and MSNBC did quite a decent job. Sure they were coming from the point of view that it was a car crash, the WH was lying and that Trump was clearly trying to impede the Russia investigations.

But then what else can they say on it.

They'll cover it alright and I'm sure it'll be wall to wall coverage, but as you say the bias which is there will let some of the stations down whereas it didn't seem as blatant in the past. I'm sure there was bias but it doesn't seem as blatant.

Now maybe I'm looking at past coverage through nostalgia but it seems better with less.

Now of course trump may never get to a Nixon situation so it might never come up.

There are grand juries in play and there are sealed indictments. Trumps activities alone last week will be investigated thoroughly.
The Supreme court of the United States will not tolerate interference into those.
If Trump has anything to hide it will go to Nixon levels and beyond. It will be unearthed and he will be impeached and maybe prosecuted if its a criminal offence such as high treason. Do you think he has anything to hide?

I'd say he has plenty to hide. The fact he won't show people his tax returns is an obvious first sign but he has a reputation for reneging on agreements and people surrounded by yes men often do some horrible things and get away with it.

I'd be pretty surprised if he lasts the full term and I think the fallout from getting rid of Trump could be pretty heavy. He's supporters will either defend him till the bitter end which could turn violent, or they'll feel like he lied and betrayed them and want him hanged. When his own mob turns on him he's utterly screwed.

I think Fox News were pretty peeved off a no WH people being made available to them, over the weekend.
P**s them off and even your media friends will savage you.

Isn't "Morning Joe" reported to be on Trump's regular TV news rotation? If so, then he may be in a bit of a temper if he believes what the hosts said this morning about Kellyanne Conway:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBGLzmEhGw0
“This is a woman, by the way, who came on our show during the campaign and would shill for Trump in extensive fashion and then she would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off and she would say ‘bleeech I need to take a shower’ because she disliked her candidate so much,” Brzezinski said.

I know it's a bit 'fluffy' for Politics, but given how much Trump requires his staff to be totally loyal to and uncritical of him, this could trigger even more turbulence in the White House.

Thinking back to Don's swipes at the media and his reference to planning to close down presidential connections with the media, as is usual through his press secretary [the very reason that job exists] makes it seem that he is annoyed, if not scared, of the media and it's questions about any possible Russian connections he has being uncovered and revealed by the media [home or abroad]. Personally I think the foreign media could be of great assistance to their US counterparts.

PS: the above link also includes occasional media reports on current affairs. The photo image and T-shirt logo of Don's supporters only serve to highlight his dislike and contempt for those who have questions for him.

The Joe from that very same show had this to say...
“They have already found the string and they are pulling on it, based on my contacts inside the FBI and they are starting to tug on that string, and they are going to keep tugging, keeping going, and it’s accelerated because of the way he fired Comey, and he knows it,” Scarborough said.

Personally, I'm feeling a lot of momentum building against Trump and I don't see how he can recover. It's just self-inflicted scandal after self-inflicted scandal. I mean, firing Comey must be one of the dumbest things that a president under investigation can do. Even people who previously supported him are either hiding or outright questioning him publicly now.

Ta for that, Mika's name looked familiar, she's Zbigniew Brzezinski's daughter, LBJ's counsellor and Jim Carters Nat Sec Advisor so she has Admin links from way back. Joe, her fiance, is a former GOP congressman [1995 to 2001].

The way he did it was offensive and the work of a coward.
Henry V111 went hunting on the day of his wives executions.

If it gets hot, the GOP will force him to resign on 'health' grounds. This would be to stop the contagion and leave Mike Pence in place.

Would one be stretching the imagination that that might be a long term scenario interested Admin heavyweights desired and planned for?
