Are Americans not worried that all this could be start of the erosion of their democracy? Giving any man too much power is a bad thing. When that man dismisses anyone who disagrees with him, even referring to "a so called Judge" recently. The signs are not good for democracy, whether one loves Trump or not.

A black President would find it easier to implement travel bans etc as whites never call them racist .
    Obama is brown .

He was very specific about "subversive professors" .... Has he specified any yet? Seems more like a tone of anti intellectualism.
How about this NYC professor. Skip to 1 minute to see the full intellectual effect...

Gossip, thanks for pointing out O'Bama is brown. It's a fact, not fake news.

So under your logic that person should be jailed as they are a "subversive professor"..... This is the best you could muster?

Really? A person has a meltdown in the street and makes a fool of herself and she should be thrown in prison because she happens to be a professor?

Trump Bannon wants to change US anti-terror program to focus exclusively on radical islamic terrorism, because apparently white supremacist terrorism isn't a thing.
The program, "Countering Violent Extremism," or CVE, would be changed to "Countering Islamic Extremism" or "Countering Radical Islamic Extremism," the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.

It's like Charleston or Quebec never happened.

Trump wants to get rid of Frank Dodd to protect and benefit his own. This is just Bannon trying the same with his own, too.

That person should be in a psychiatric hospital under strict supervision.

That person should be in a psychiatric hospital under strict supervision.

That's not what you claimed though, you see her as an example of 'subversive professors who should be imprisoned'.

Thankfully you are not in charge of mental health or a justice system as you seem to have some warped ideas.

Still not a justification to jail her... Jimmy has specified that he wishes to jail supposedly "subversive professors"...

Disturbing the peace, abusing and threatening police officers, inciting the crowd to violence etc. There must be numerous offences which would warrant her being invited to cool off in a cell for a while.
We're talking about a country where you can be picked up just for drinking alcohol outdoors in a public place.

And all of those things relate to her being a professor because.....?

You still you used an example of a person, who happened to be a professor, acting the clown in public, rather than a professor actually behaving or inciting terror or treason through their influence as an academic scholar.

We have seen what Erdogan does with academics who misbehave .

Its a matter of perceived "authority" and leading by example. Influencing students. "Talking down" at police.
She's the one that shouted at the police officers that she was a professor.
    What does that tell you?

    That she's an academic.
As intellectuals, we here on boards.ie recognise a logical fallacy when we see one. The classic argument from authority.
Scholars have noted that the academic environment produces a nearly ideal situation for these processes to take hold, and they can affect entire academic disciplines, giving rise to groupthink.
    ;)

What about the "authority" of the president setting an example of tweeting insults against judges? Not exactly respecting the position of the president or the judiciary is it.

So your issue with her is her mentioning that she was a professor, which she is. What's your problem with that?

Your argument is also incredibly hypocritical considering Donald continues to abuse his power and position for personal gain. I suppose he should be locked up aswell, yeah?

In Ireland you could be charged with contempt of Court and jailed for the kinds of public statements Trump has been making. Is there a an equivalent in the US?

America has better free speech laws over there. You can act like a prick and nobody will care. That being said they do take it a bit far but it applies to all the political ideologies over there.

Except she's not a NYU professor. She's not a professor at all. She's artist Rebecca Goyette. You'll need to look elsewhere for your, eh, subversive professors.

Not to mention just flat out wrong as he is basically intimidating not just this judge but all judges in public. Clearly showing if you do not give me a ruling in a case that he wants your on his list. I have said before that Trunp is a very dangerous demagogue and I stand by that but he also is showing very scary authoritarian tendencies as does this Republican party in general.

Trump when asked about Putin by Bill O'Reilly, Trump says there are a lot of killers, and asks Bill, 'are we so innocent' and then refers to the Iraq war.

The fact is the US is not the 3rd most dangerous place for journalists. Russia on the other hand is... This is in a large part because of Putin.

Yes, it seems the protesters have now disowned her and pronounced it "fake news". They were quite happy to put it out there as real news originally though, when they thought it could be used to justify their violent demonstrations.
