Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Urgent used car issue

I bought a used car in September 2016 from a used car dealer
It came with a 3 month engine and gear box warranty.
From the minute I bought the car I've had problems the sump was leaking oil literally the week I got it. Returned it they sold it with a rear tire two sizes two big and I noticed that and got that rectified they repaired the oil leak it but they are always on the defensive saying that the car is sold as seen but that was not disclosed when buying it. And being very aggressive on the phone now only have the car since September on a few occasions a steering fault error would come up and go off seconds later and when I told them they were blaming me saying that there wasn't a thing wrong with that car. Two days ago the power steering failed I've been searching Google and it's a common fault in the renault modus. It could be an ecu fault which would mean the steering column would need to be redone and it is financially unfeasible for the cars value and year. I feel like I've been ripped off and left with the bill for a car that won't pass the next nct in may 17. Would I have a case if I brought them to court the car is definitely not fit for the purpose intended. This will break me financially any advice would be greatly appreciated

Personally I don't think you'll have any case. They said they would cover the engine and gearbox only which doesn't (clearly) extend to the steering.

Regarding the oil leak, how major a leak is it? Did you/your mechanic not notice this and the tyre size issue during the pre purchase inspection?

Forget about the engine and gearbox carry on , you should be covered under consumer goods act. Me thinks you didn't get car checked by mechanic to check ? Unless it's a trade sale or said in ad sold as seen they can't pass on responsability

No such thing as a "trade sale" or "sold as seen" when a private person buys from a retail motor dealer as all such transactions MUST come with a warranty. However the Sale of goods and supply of services act doesn't specifically state how long or comprehensive a warranty must be on a used car therefore it's open to being negotiated at the time of agreeing a deal. So if it's an older car it's fair to say the warranty won't usually be as long or complete and the newer to car the better the warranty will be.

    WHAT YEAR IS THE CAR?
