I am confident that if it's Dublin that you have selected coupled with the fact that there is over a year left for the panel to run that you will get a job out of it.

There is only 7 days of interviews for batch 3 with what looks like 2 boards per day and let's say they interview max of 7 people each a day that would work out at 98 people being interviews.

If I recall correctly the interview pass rate was about 60-70% in batch 1 and 2 so if that correlates batch 3 may end up as about 60-70 people. That would be a total number of paneled applicants across the 3 at approx 340 (I think!). I know some are regional and may not get offers and some will turn offers down but its still a lot of jobs from 1 AP competition which is nice given the extended period of f*ck all competitions.

Is it certain that all Dublin batch 2 will be appointed /offered before batch 3 get offers? And was the same true for batch 1 vs 2, as in did they fully exhaust 1 before starting on 2? I am still waiting on batch 2 and progress looks good from what i hear. After all the waiting it would be frustrating if PAS bumped some in batch 3 ahead (based on higher interview scores for example). Though obviously i wish those doing batch 3 all the best!

No, they will exhaust batch 2 before starting on batch 3.

When I get my ranking for batch 3 will that be based solely on the interview?

Yes mine was for batch 2. From memory they give you the qualifying score and your mark on each competency. The tests simply determine how quickly you are called for interview. Dont think they factor at all after that.

Yep Panel expires end Oct 2018.

340 APs is just from this competition, there's also AP highers that were appointed (some of those wouldn't have been APs before I guess) and internal appointments in departments would be more again.

Found the batch 3 interview more like a conversation. Even made them laugh. Glad for the experience but couldn't tell one way or the other.

AP1 was a specific competition for APs for DPER, Finance and Taoiseachs. Every AP in those Depts is an AP1.

Slightly higher pay scale than normal AP... in reality no different to other APs but the fact they’re the special ones!

The panel really seems to have bogged down after the initial batch, I was hoping there'd be some life after the summer break but maybe there's simply no more vacancies in the three depts.

that was always likely

however, some AP1s could be promoted to PO in the new panel about to be set up

There are some APs in DPER - in the areas such as Peoplepoint, shared services etc. but will soon be in a seperate organisation (NSSO)

I wonder are Departments pulling off internal panels at the moment and will a bit of life kick in to both the AP and AP1 panels again soon.

The AP panel is ticking over nicely though and Batch 3 interviews mean Batch 2 will deffo all get placed, it's just a waiting game.

I'm in low 400s on Inter D and low 600s in Open and was interviewed in this batch if that can help solve any mysteries.

I came up with that figure for batch 3 based on 7 days of interviews with 2 interview boards assuming each board interviews 7 a day giving 98.

Only a guess!

Just going by the placings on the tests ..they interviewed people ranging from the 300's to the 600's. I don't have any definitive information!

Actually there are APs in DPER, Finance and Taoiseach's who are standard AP. For example APs promoted internally in Taoiseach's in recent years have been AP standard (though Finance and PER's internal promotees are generally AP higher, apart from the specialist economist APs). APs who have joined those three departments from the open/ interD panels have been standard too. As far as I can gather there is no proper policy (and I don't see any real justification for it) which is a bit shambolic.

There was a last minute development on my end too. I was offered AP in South East and was due to start next week. But with only a couple of weeks to go to my start date, my current employers (only there since June on a 9 month contract) offered me a permanent job and matched the terms and conditions of the AP role. They are semi state company and i really enjoy my job.....

So I accepted their offer and someone else got some good news of a regional position in my place! So good news for everyone!

Cant believe after all the hard work with the form, the tests, the dreaded etray and interview that I'm not taking the job!!!! You just never know what will come along though.

I wish all of you who have started your new roles many happy years there. And to those still waiting for assignments I wish you every success (and patience!).

Thanks so much for all the support and advice since last December. There is a great bunch of people on this thread.

In my experience, the APs in Finance and Dper have more responsibility, longer worker hours and manage upwards more than those in line depts.

I generalise of course. I don't know if this was the original rationale for it though.

AP1 is just a payscale. They are in all departments. The amount of responsibility etc is luck of the draw.

Yes and some longer serving APs get it based on tenure and not ability.

Surely it has to be more than just a pay scale. How could they justify keeping it if the responsibilities are the same as AP but they just pay AP1s more?
Plus why advertise for AP1s when there is an AP comp?

There is a difference in AP1 in the three Departments mentioned and the AP Higher Scale in all other Departments

In other Departments a percentage of staff are on higher scale but it is not connected to their role....as in AP and AP higher do same work

In three Departments core staff all AP are AP1
