Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Will there be another competition soon?

The reason that can happen is because some Departments end up owing vancancies to particular streams, so they may have to backfill those posts first. So for example if there was no internal panel in place in a particular Department for say 3/6 months, then they would keep promoting ahead with open and interdept and then owe vacancies to the internal stream once a new panel was in place.

This is happening but unfortunately in the regions depts tend to promote from internal panel and ignore the open/interD unless it suits them. There also appears to be a large number of transfers being facilitated. Trying to remain upbeat but until depts are monitored they will continue to do as they please, by the way I would have no problem if someone was appointed from an internal panel if they had at least applied for the open/interD comp.

For those of us who will be new to the CS, how do internal panels work? It is a similar format to open and interdepartmental with online and centre testing followed by interview or is it based purely on interview? Do depts have a panel or do they only start the process when a vacancy arises?

I haven’t seen an internal competition of any grade with apt test, definitely no etray! Generally internal competitions are based on interview, higher grades I.e principal officer, may have a preliminary round.

If a vacancy arises and there is no ‘live’ internal panel, it usually prompts an internal competition.

Thanks Murraymint. Do internal panels generally last as long as open/inter panels?

Yes generally all panels are 2 yrs

The internal competition in DSP this year used the results of the PAS Open/Interdepartmental test (excluding etray and interview) that you all did to shortlist for internal interview i.e. if you worked in DSP and wanted to apply for the internal AP, you had to do the PAS competition and then PAS gave DSP the scores for the DSP staff.

The panel has just started in DSP and lasts for three years.

because of their size the likes of DSP and Revenue use dofferent approaches

Departments have different methods too - some shortlist; others have two rounds of interview. One Depaertment recently had a 2 interview process for PO including a presentation element.

I called this afternoon and was told that they are with appointments at 117, which does not seem to support what was said here last week.

Unless batch 2 total is 124, then it matches.

They’ve never told me how many on batch 2 when I ask, they have said twice “around 125”.

Hi all, long-time follower, first-time poster. Thank you all so much for your info and updates throughout this comp, and congrats to those recently appointed! Onwards to Batch 3! A question for those already appointed who were serving civil servants; I've seen 2 different starting pay-points for AP; would you mind sharing what level you started on? Was it the 65k point?

    It will be 65k yes.

This is a AP2 competition, not an AP1 comp.

It'll start at €65,837 from 1st Jan 2018 and that will change to €66,495 on 1st Oct 2018 as a result of the Public Service Stability Agreement.

It was Interd comp and I'm staying in my current Department, so delighted with that.

I'm also wondering about Regions - are there many people left from Batches 1 & 2 looking for regional appointments does anyone know ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭CP30

Sorry I know nothing about the regions.

Has anyone being called from batch 3?

I’m in the top 10 batch 3 and haven’t heard anything.

I’m in the top 10 batch 3 and haven’t heard anything.

A colleague of mine called yesterday and was told they are at 8 on the open and 6 on the inter.

    Are you on both panels?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,047 ✭✭✭Clonmel1000

I am on both but regional on both with probably little prospect of anything coming up in my areas of choice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭CP30

Ok yes those number positions 8 and 6 are Dublin only.

With a bit of luck you will get called. Where are you for the regioninal places you have chosen?

Top 4 in one wasn’t sure about the other. I’m not too confident really.

Was excited to hear this, as I am just a couple of places below that. But I rang this morning and was told they haven't even started on batch 3 yet. He said they are "just about done with batch 2". :(

BL I rang aswell this morning, I’m placed similar position to you and was told if haven’t heard from them by the middle of next week to give them a call! The person I spoke to confirmed the numbers my colleague said. Did you speak to someone in the clearance section or one of the other sections? Oh did you ask about the Dublin only panel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 BL

Some guy called Dave. In the clearance section I think

Well my view is whether they are just finished batch 2 or are in fact at 8/6 I’m batch 3 either way I would think there is a really good chance batch 3 top 20 Dublin candidates will be notified before Xmas so fingers crossed!!!

Hopefully...pretty annoying that they can't give consistent information though. What you get told seems to depend on who you happen to speak to. They really need to look at having an online tracker or something, where people on the panel can just see where they are at for each region. Would save them taking a lot of calls anyway!

Yeah that would make perfect sense really. Look hopefully we get a call in the next week or so.

Have any other batch 3 people called?

  • Registered Users Posts: 52 ✭✭Poppy2017

I haven't but I'm in the 90s on open and also only have Regional locations - just wondering has anyone higher up on panel with only Regional locations asked PAS for their Regional positions ?? If it goes like batches 1 & 2 the Dublin only people should be sorted !

  • Registered Users Posts: 68 ✭✭sodacake1968

Limerick and cork haven't moved in months

I'm interested in two midland counties and again don't know if there is much movement !!!

I have Galway and Westmeath. There has been no movement in Galway and little movement in Westmeath.

Any word on a 2017 AP competition? I thought I heard rumours of one, on here, due for November.

    Apologies for slightly OT.

This panel runs until October 2018 so I couldn’t see them starting another one until spring at the earliest

Can any of the posters still on the thread promoted earlier tell me how long it took to get paid?? Two months and counting for me and PeoplePoint basically said I’ll be paid when they get to me :/

    Took me 11 weeks.

Here's a response to a PQ on it from October

    QUESTION

To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform his views on whether PeoplePoint has sufficient resources to process all the incoming information; the number of persons in the civil service waiting on salary adjustments; the length of time they are waiting; if this delay is in accordance with the Payment of Wages Act 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
    REPLY

All payments are made with regard to the provisions of Payment of Wages Acts.

There are approximately six hundred pay adjustment cases with PeoplePoint related to acting up allowances, assignment to higher scale and pay on promotion, of which 50% are over thirty days old.

A specialist team is dedicated to progressing the abovementioned cases. It is expected all pay instructions will have issued to the pay centre within the period of six weeks

Get onto AHCPS if you've joined

Anyone hear anything lately - I rang yesterday and was told to check back next week. All they would confirm is that batch 2 Dublin is finished and they are on batch 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 EL23

I phoned today and was told they hadn't started on Batch 3 yet... there seems to be a lot of inconsistency in the information being provided...

Yeah different responses all the time depending on who you speak to.

The only certainty is they seem to have finished batch 2. That’s something I suppose.

I wonder when they start batch 3 (if they actually haven’t) will they have a big block of positions to fill straight off the bat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 Imp123

I would say one response is regarding the open and the other the interdepartmental so it depends on who is ringing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭roe_cat

Well I'm batch 2 and I'm in clearance but haven't been offered a job yet. Could be that for Batch 3 some of the clearance process - reference checks and all that - is started but they might not actually have started making any job offers.
