Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just looked up the Alli incident now, I had presumed he must have bit someone seeing a Suarez was mentioned, I was disappointed, it was just a filthy tackle, how that would make you relate that to Suarez and gutter press I honestly don't know what the thought process must have been.

All that outrage when Suarez bit someone but what Dele Alli did tonight was ten times worse imo...I wonder will the English gutter press drive him out as well? I won't be holding my breath.

A ridiculous tackle is certainly worse than a bite as you can end a career with a bad one.

A bite is scummier I guess and that's why it's perceived as worse. Same as a spit.

There were clowns wanted Suarez banned for life for his bite. Imagine all the brilliance they've had missed.

He seems to be "reacting" quite a lot lately. There's something in every other game with him...not at tonights level but he loses the head way too easily.

I hope you know I was being ironic or sarcastic, whichever one I was and I was definitely being either glib or flippant.
Maybe all four of the above. Facetious even.

It was mostly tongue in cheek because it was just you thanking all his posts, even though I've generally come to have a sneaky soft spot for your style of 'bantz'.

I've said it before that there are 4 main people involved in the back and forth with both sides as irritating as the other in lots of ways. There are other peripheral figures but I think any regular reader/contributor would be able to name the main few involved. Having said that though I've noticed less of it from one of the main 4 (as I'd have categorised them) has engaged much less in it recently. I think everyone just wants it to stop.

    Anyhow, football.

I'd make an educated guess that you're referring to me here.

I'd like to highlight that I haven't engaged with Bill or Ben in a long time and it's their raging hard ons and need to quote every post that drags the thread off topic. Maybe the mods could look into some option that would mean they don't have to react to my posts. :)

Here you are claiming how you were on the right side of things and like you have a white flag tagged to your mast, nothing is ever your fault of course. The part in bold is part of the problem if you ask me. A general lack of respect for other people's opinion's is exactly what you are complaining about and yet you are guilty of it yourself. Anyway I'm not in any clique as far as I know but seriously if everyone could just stop using such derogatory language about eachother's posts that would be a start.

Annnnnnnyyway, Leicester have sacked Claudio?? I can't understand the timing of this after that great result in Sevilla but I can't help but wonder if the timing is horrendous for us. I was happy to take on Ranieri's team next in the league, now who know's what they will be like. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that they don't rally until after our match, if they do at all...

Jaysus. Great use of the roll eyes there mormank. Really mature way to get your point across. I'll think you will find that nothing in my post was untrue yet you're gone off on some mad tangent about white flags tagged to a mast?

But what I have noticed is everytime I post you seem to pull on your Anti-Cobb superhero outfit and try to chastise me for any perceived injustices I might have inflicted on the thread.

You might want to ease up on the obsession buddy.

It was your reaction at fault not you.
I see Spurs manager is defending him, using the whole 'he should of had a free' line and that he reacted poorly.
BT's Glenn hoddle was doing the same during half time.

Well there's a whole load of problems with this video.
There's some merit to the idea, if for no other reason than because none of our players are the best players around in their position, so everyone could theoretically be upgraded on, but there's a lot of bad chains of logic.

One issue is using stats where he shouldn't and not using stats where he should.

He's comparing stats on players who nominally fulfill similar roles but because they're in wildly different systems and teams playing at very different levels there's only so much you can tell with the stats.

Take Kanté - Chelsea have 6% less possession on average than we do.
I don't have the stats to hand but I'd also imagine that they play a lot deeper as well.
That'll affect his stats - tackles, interceptions, distance he's required to cover, the type of running required, the areas of the pitch he has to play football in and the style of passing he has to use.

"He doesn't want to take any risks"

Unlike, say Chelsea, who play with a back 3, and largely sit fairly deep and counter-attack we've a back two and two full backs who play as wingers.
We play enough suicidal football as it is.

Then he's comparing the passing abilities of Hendo with literally the two best DMs in the world and players who'd cost £50m+ a pop.

He's also ignoring the difference in the options the two players have in front of them.
Kante, for example, is more likely to be playing against teams who give more space than they do against us, because he'll be more likely to be breaking, which suits his ability to carry the ball.

Busquets, in addition to obviously being a better footballer, also has the advantage that the lads he's passing to have glue attached to their boots.

Then, on the other hand, he cherry picks a few clips of Henderson miscontrolling the ball and uses it to make an argument that he's too **** a to play the position, when here it's important to give at least some context into the breakdown of their passing; the length, the pace of the ball, the areas of the pitch it's taking place in, etc.

Mascherano couldn't dribble either, and his passing was worse than Hendo's.
He was still a brilliant DM.

There's no magic formula for who should play where and what skills are vital for which position.
There's more than one way to skin a cat and just because Hendo can't dribble like Kanté, or pass like literally the best DMs in the world, doesn't mean he isn't a good option there.
It didn't stop us from having our joint best first half of the league in 25 years.

That's not to say you couldn't or shouldn't get a more orthodox or specialised DM in, but it's not the be all and end all, it wouldn't necessarily be better overall or against every opponent and it wouldn't be the only way to solve the more general problems that he outlines.

If you want to fix your attack against packed defences, you have no recognised senior striker at the club and only one winger, and the solution you're coming up with is "buy a DM" I think you need to have a word with yourself.

There are definitely flaws with the video but he has compared Hendo to players that would be less experienced rather than just Busquets.

I think the biggest concern is what he does when he has time on the ball. Coutinho and Firminio, while obviously not as good as Messi, should be well able to receive the ball in a tight area but Henderson can't make the pass. The opposition know that the can give him time on the ball (when Liverpool are not in a counter attacking position) because he will play an easy pass. When Liverpool are in a counter attacking position, they can pressure him as he will panic and pass back to the keeper or to a full back.

I don't think buying a DM is the solution to all Liverpool's woes but getting a good one and moving Henderson out of that position would be a good start.

Mane missing really showed the issue IMO.
Without Mane's speed on the wing we need to feed Lallana, Coutinho & Firmino the ball smartly to make best use of them ............. we don't more often than not.

With Mane there he can make runs or travel with the ball so that causes the opposition problems so the CM problem isn't overly prevalent.

Does anyone remember Tony Barrett's article from a year or two ago that highlighted how when teams exceed their expectations and over perform, the following season they seemingly under perform, and you see a return to the norm, of sorts.

I think he wrote it when we had the poor season following the title challenge with Rodgers, but he had a bunch of examples.

Be interested in reading it again in light of the Leicester stuff at the moment.

If we do recapture our early season form (or close to it) now that we are back to a game a week & more or less full squad, Mane back etc that'd be great.

If we don't however (and I'm not at all convinced we will), than you'd think we might really struggle next year with EL added to the mix.

I'd like to highlight this post as bollock talk, you may have fooled plenty of your internet buddies but you engage the whole time with subtle, petty little jabs, you seem to talk about 4 things on here,Doughboy, Man Utd, Arsenal and Sturridge that's it,Liverpool barely get a mention, yet here you are claiming to be a saint, f off.

You see yourself as the thread wise guy or some such and I guess your internet buddies can take blame for encouraging it, funny as a dose of hemorrhoids imo.

Hi. What happened to Sule? Unless he died or something there is still penty of time for him to end up at a big club so not sure what you mean tbh, besides nobody took me up on that bet. Please don't tell me you have been waiting 8 months for an "I told you so"??

Good man. I had forgotten about that post tbh but having read it again I totally stand by it. Off to Bayern eh? No surprises there then. Tielemans I am supremely confident will end up at a big club too. In fact, everyone on that list will imo. :p

You'd think it would be that easy, but it's so clear that the two main culprits enjoy the sniping so much that it won't happen. And to be clear, I'm talking about the two who think they're in the right but literally never are, they pounce on posts they don't like and act as if they're the solution, when in fact they're the cancer of the entire thread. They know exactly who they are as do the rest of us, and they should cut it the f out. This thread always had an element of humour to it, and this pair are doing their best to ruin that.

Wow, that's some swing! From possibly the worst ref in the league to possibly the best. I was not worried at all about this leicester game but now that Ranieri is gone it ups the variance imo. :(
