Spurs gone 2-1 up. Was wondering if they'd be committed to staying in the EL.

Hopefully they don't blow it now. Them being involved in EL after Christmas would only be a good thing for us. I hope Utd don't blow it for the same reason tomorrow night.

That Dortmund lad we've been linked with looks fairly good, although his side is loosing 2-0 Madrid can't really cope with him on the RW.

3-1 Spurs. They don't really seem to be able to balance Europe and the PL. Good for us.

    Buy Reus.

A bit envious of Sevilla getting out of their group, that should/could/would be us!

Spurs getting through to the Europa is probably decent for us I'd assume. Hope they get to the final

    Semi-final.

C'mon, we can still be petty about this.

All depends how they do in the league up until the Europa knock outs I think. If they're still in with a good shout of top 4 by then, i'd say they'll bomb out of it like last year.

If they find themselves cut adrift, then i'd say they'll take it more seriously.

They aren't doing too bad a job, 1.92ppg and they've conceded just 10 goals.

Now I really dislike Spurs (I reckon Spurs fans don't even like Spurs :pac: ) but I have a huge fear they'll finish ahead of us this season.

I came home from training with a sprained ankle that day, which I obviously completely forgot about as the match went on.

Gerrard scored and I hopped off the coach, totally oblivious, and ended up in a heap on the floor :pac:

Edit: Couch, not coach. God dammit :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

I remember my flatmate at the time was studying for accounting exams in his room. He came in at half time, 1-0 down and said nothing (he was Australian so more into other sports). After the Gerrard goal he came running in as I'd let an almighty roar out of me and was jumping round the place!

The relief and happiness at the final whistle, I remember sitting back down on the couch thinking, "That was great, delighted....we'll prob get knocked out in the next round tho!!" :o

Why were you lying on your coach? :-)

Can't believe it's been 12 years....still remember feeling queasy seeing Mellor and Pongolle coming on

I can see FSG going all in for him.

They will market him to the American market as their "Franchise player" to use an American sporting term to bring in American sponsorship and new fans.

Spending £25m plus maybe huge money but what it could bring from American business would make it worth it.

Also the lad looks like a talent.

It's gottne to the point that, when I hear we're after a defender, I assume he's not all that good and mistake-prone, sadly to say.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Second time that rumour has cropped up.

Last time was in one of the English papers and the link seemed to be based entirely on the fact that he's free next summer and playing for Schalke - we've gone there once for Matip, we MUST be doing it again...

That Gerrard goal is my all time favourite goal. Can't believe it was 12 years ago, I was the ripe old age of 13. We'll never experience a year like that again. How djimi traore has a champions league medal is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I always felt sorry for Mellor that he never got a medal his goal and assist to Gerrard were so important on the road to winning the cup.

Almost as if we've signed 15 defenders over 5 seasons and 10 of them have been crap. I'm assuming you mean the club in general as opposed to the Klopp era.

Similar enough, was driving home from football training in college during the first half, all doom and gloom, the lads ripping the piss out of me in the back of the car.

Watched the second half in a house i shared with 6 others, still in my football gear, covered in mud, which got well and truly sprayed all over the place when Gerrards winner went in!

I think you need a certain number of appearances maybe? Or perhaps he wasn't named in the CL squad for the knockouts?

    Edit:
Just did a bit of googling, seems Uefa gives out 40 gold medals for the winners to be distributed as they choose...seems like Mellor would surely have gotten one then?

He got injured before the squad was announced in January for the knockout stages and they are the only players to get medals anyone dropped/replaced even if the played in the group stages don't get medals.

I still remember doing an assignment and keeping an eye on the liverpool score on score centre. Thought we were eliminated when Olympiakos took the lead. Still gutted I never got to watch the match at the time.

Is that correct? Well according to the BBC, Guardian and Mellor himself he should have gotten one. You may be correct but was that the case in 2005 also?

    BBC

Mellor was supposed to receive a Champions League medal after Liverpool's victory over AC Milan.

There were 25 allocated to the club by Uefa but some medals went missing and Mellor, along with the likes of Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Stephen Warnock, never received one.

Mellor said he got a runners up medal from the AC Milan side.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/preston/6069698.stm

    Also from Mellor himself

"There was a bit of a fiasco with the medals in Istanbul. The club were told that 25 were given out but four or five players like myself and Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who had featured in the campaign before the final, didn't get anything. I don't know what went wrong but one medal was sold on the internet and the lads weren't happy about that. I still haven't got a medal. The club are trying to do something about it and get some more medals but I don't know if anything will come of it."

    Those articles were in 2006.

Yeah, I know, it's just me being pessimistic. But over the last few years, I haven't really seen much of an improvement in terms of the mental strength needed to keep clean sheets and see games out from an entire defnesive unit.

You done an assignment instead of watching a very important Liverpool game. Disgraceful.

That's because Klopp has failed to bring in that elusive defensive coach, same as Rodgers.

Get them out as soon as for me, I'm not worried if it eases their own fixture list. We don't need them getting a run of steam in that cup.

Just noticed Chelsea and Arsenal now have a better GD to us :(
Didn't see that creep up on us tbh.

Easily fixed if we go back to our earlier form :)

Sturridge out again. So much for a minor calf injury.

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/daniel-sturridge-likely-miss-liverpools-12296638

a 30m+ offer next summer & I would sell him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

lol is anyone truly surprised anymore!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,796 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Sturridge is gone this Summer, I reckon. Klopp was clearly losing patience with him before we even kicked a ball this season and he won't be anymore pleased now. As for a fee, given his injury record, I doubt we'll be getting £30M for him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

There was no way Klopp would keep Sturridge beyond this summer. Regardless of fitness he is the wrong sort of striker. Like Owen and Torres he is essentially one dimensional - once he loses pace he loses most of his game. Add in his lack of fitness and he isn't of much value to the squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

He was injured at a similar time last year near christmas too which dragged on. Probably won't be back until the new year.
Since being at Liverpool Sturridge has never player during the Christmas period through injury.
