Watched the most recent episode, it was terrible, why did they not give Clarkson and Hammond a car each to modify in to fire engines or something along those lines to match May, seemed really poorly thought out. I love the challenges driving across dodgy terrain and countries in literal ****boxes of cars and coping with the breakdowns and problems along the way.

One thing you'd need to remember, the fire engine challenge was mentioned on top gear after they did the ambulance challenge but they had to say it couldn't be done.
I suspect if the challenge was to build fire engines the BBC may have come knocking on their door.
They are quite limited to what they can do but it seems like they are slowly giving the beeb the finger regarding this.

    Anybody know who Sylvia was?
I enjoyed the unscripted episode. Pretty sure everything including the clutch/drive shaft was all planned, that was the irony of it all!

Just finished the first episode, have to say it was pretty good. Classic Top Gear style. Intro about the location suiting Jeremy and May mentioning the parcel gave me a laugh. Start of the challenge was a bit slow. Fairly long build up just to mention Hammond couldn't drive more than 100 miles on electric.

The celebrity face off is a good twice on the lap times.

All in all decent show, jokes didn't drag on too much. I hope the news has more car stuff in it like Top Gear, all they mentioned was the sweat seats by Nissan. Not about any new crazy prototypes or new Dacias!

Looking forward to the next few episodes.

He also used the same comparison between the number of radiators and his apartment from the Veyron review.

I have to say, it wasn't a bad episode. Perfectly watchable and actually witty in places. Only mark was the last part of the Chiron film, it was badly edited. I wasn't sure if they were honouring Rendevous or mocking it. In case anyone hasn't see it, this is the film:

Spoiler: The sound I believe is a Ferrari, but its dubbed in. The car was actually a Merc and it wasn't a continuous take.

    also its sped up

It was a Mercedes alright, dubbed with a Ferrari IIRC and the driver(also the director) never went much beyond 100 KPH. However it was one take and not sped up(the length of the flic was limited by the length of a single roll of film and it only had a few seconds of film left). He had a spotter with a radio at one blindspot, but in the event his radio failed so it could have been nasty. The woman at the end was the directors girlfriend.

Watched the latest episode tonight and thought it was actually funny.
The up video was pretty nice and good to see a review of a small affordable car.
The tank was surreal, money can't buy style anyway and the last ken block video was very entertaining.

Agree, it was the first episode I watch from the show are thought it’s getting back to the old flow

Enjoying series two. Some places where I had a few laughs. Take it for what it is; entertaining car TV with an excellent soundtrack with excellent camera work. Honestly, the cinematography (can you call it that when it's a TV show?) is phenomenal. There's some iffy bits along the way but it's good enough for me.

Get rid of the celebrity segment and put a car review in it's place and I'd call it a perfect series.

I quite like the celebrity bit. The interview part at least, it's kind of ruined by the laps being so boring. They need a faster wider track.

Very true they don't have space.
If you noticed though that top gear also has reduced the track size which is weird.
Maybe I should give the celebrities a chance but the UK vs US was annoying.

Have to agree the farmkanha piece was hilarious best thing they've done in years. The up video was good and the tank in the desert was good. Last two episodes have been better.

I found it very predictable and boring. The whole segment was about 10 mins too long.

On the whole though a decent episode.

Same.. it was grand as a 5 minute segment, but it must have been stretched out to 15-20mins? Episode apart from that.. didn't pay much attention to the track vehicle segment, skipped the "bantz" and celebrity bit (as I do every week)

Enjoyable episode, I laughed at a few bits.
Farmkana was dragged out a bit.

I still think they are taking the piss out of everyone who complains that things are too scripted.

Dunno if it's worth the 7.99pm or whatever people who pay , actually pay.

Have to say I quite enjoyed the last 2 episodes, especially the tank in the desert!

Bill Bailey has turned into a very old man :( That bit he said about getting into a different Citroen 2CV which had a baby seat in the back he also said during one of his appearances on Top Gear!

Seems like this week's episode is going to be the jag road trip they show highlights to.
    Really looking forward to it.

I just watched an old episode of TG from around 2003 and it made me realise just how sh*t this incarnation is.
I really couldn't give a fiddlers about the stupid tank, nor if I am honest could I care less how fast a star can drive a car.
Still watching it - but I find myself fast forwarding more and more of this.

Hands down a vast improvement over season 1.

This season is getting better by the episode, it'll probably be really good just as the bloody thing ends.
It'll never happen but I'd love to see them do a good, serious car special with cars that people could realistically own. Budget of £5/10k
Mk 1/2 golfs and escorts, capris, mantas, maybe even a nova, a scirocco or an M3.
Decent cars, not buckets of sh1te like they usually buy and then turn into scrap metal. Basically the show they did with the jaaaaaaags, but more "boy racer"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,004 ✭✭✭ironclaw

Credit where credit is due, the 4th and 5th episodes were decent. If they snipped out the celebrity bit and just had car films, I'd almost take back everything I said about it.

A bit like the masereti episode from season 1?
I really enjoy the conversation street segments now whereas I was kinda bored with it at the start.
I get the impression season 1 was more to test what they could and couldn't do and season 2 is a more ah **** it let's do it season.
I'm looking forward to the Mozambique special.
Did anyone notice the top gear hint during the Lamborghini film? Bit surprised they went for it :D
Can't wait to see what's in store for s3.

S02e07 of The Grand Tour.. must be one of the best so far.

This show is getting better and better, they really are finding their feet.

Bring on the Mozambique special.. ... don't let me down.

I must be the only one who is enjoying the new series and - without question - thinks it is at least on par if not better than the last few seasons of TG.

PS - I also miss the "celebrity braincrash" section. Because it made the celebrity part shorter!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭Bazzy

Really enjoying it the lancia story was amazing was watching with Jaw dropped

The celebrity bit I skip admittedly there has been no one on it that I would have interest in

It's juvenile humour with 3 grown men messing in cars

if your looking for serious shows your in the wrong place!

Really enjoyed this week's episode group b bit was very good. I always fast forward boring interview and lap times, was AJ this week and some random guy. Hammond's Lamborghini bit was good

The Lancia bit was very good, Clarkson excels at these story telling segments. Performante was good. Dont know about SIARPC cause its a reflex to fast forward that.

Last two episodes were really great. They seem to be reverting to old Top Gear and it's all the better for it. The Jag challenge was enjoyable and the Lancia segment was fascinating. It's like they thought in season 1, "all the youtube watching kids with ADHD won't want a history lesson, lets have more explosions" but they've relaxed on that and it's morphing back into what made it great on the BBC. I hope they keep this up now.

Sums it up perfectly. I actually enjoyed the last episode greatly. Anything Clarkson has done in the 'documentary' genre, like the Lancia piece, is perfect and beyond cars, I'd suggest watching them.

When he isn't playing the fool Clarkson is actually excellent. His engineering and historical pieces are quite good.

He is a great factual presenter. It is a shame that he did not do more.

This is my favourite. An astonishing story really well told.

Lancia definitely were very "Italian" at the time. Gotta love the rule bending that was going on at the time. The episode was a hilarious watch.

It's funny that a guy like Roehrl actually fitted in the team. He must have a dark side too, haha. Alen on the other hand was way more passionate type of guy, especially for a Finn, and therefore a good match for the team. He used to love driving the Stratos and in his opinion he was never there to win but to have a good time and entertain the crowds.

Another fantastic episode. Last year they were getting a little better each episode but none were very good.
This season has been a completely different kettle of fish. Mid way thru it got very good and comes on leaps and bounds every week.
The ford segment was fantastic in every way and it got better with the old v new. The civic was a bit gaudy next to the other 2 but I suppose that was deliberate.
The dogging section was hilarious, I figured it was set up like everything else but I rewatched it and clarksons face was priceless, hard to tell if he was acting or not(he's not usually good at acting). Maybe it was set up, maybe not. I got a good chuckle at it anyway, twice.
