A woman in her 20s was killed in an apparent hit and run on the Barna/Moycullen Road junction overnight.

A second woman, also in her early twenties, was also found at the roadside and is in a stable condition.

The two women were discovered at around 2.20am today.

They both received medical assistance at the scene and were taken to University Hospital Galway. One of the women was later pronounced dead. A post mortem is to be arranged. The second woman remains in a stable condition.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
No arrests have been made. Investigations are on-going.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have been travelling on the N59, Galway-Moycullen Road or the Barna-Moycullen Road, between the hours of 1.45am and 3.15am, to contact them at Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda station.

RTE are reporting a totally different take on that accident (if it is indeed the same one)

And Irish Times reporting they fell out of a moving van...
It is understood both women fell from a moving van out onto the road. They were given medical treatment at the scene and taken to University Hospital in Galway. One of the women was later prounced dead and a postmortem is to be carried out.

The second woman is in a stable condition in hospital. It is believed the van they were travelling in was not involved in a collision.

Excellent observation. I think you should bring this to the attention of the Gardai at once.

Title amended. There is nothing in the OPs source to indicate hit and run.

They must have amended it. (Obviously they jumped the gun without authenticating the facts)

It is of course a moving investigation.

I suspected it may have been a little suspect so took these screenshots at the time of posting.

You can clearly see the title of the article.

Was it a van as in a van with no seats in the back?

Seems a lot of questions around this accident. Why didn't the van stop?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭flazio

And why haven't we heard about the owner / driver of the van been brought in for questioning?
