When a dealer says "€2000 Scrappage offer" do they mean you will get a straight €2000 for the car you are trading in, or is €2000 the maximum they will give and it's downhill from there depending on the car you are trading in?

Also, if you are paying the entire amount in one go *and* trading in, will you get more of a discount?

I went shopping this weekend, found most places that said "up to €x" were willing to give an allocated amount dependent on what car you were buying rather than what banger you were trading in. So if you bought model A you wanted to buy it was €4k they were giving, model B was €3k scrappage.

Only one (Opel) played hardball and were offering the actual value.
