Under-carpet speaker cable price and amp query

Hi, looking for 16m under-carpet speaker cable and a 10m under-carpet sub cable. I assume the cable will go between the carpet and the underlay, or would it go between the floor and the underlay.

Also, doing a bit of reading in the hope of picking up a black friday amp deal. I notice several or your amp specs refer to both 6ohm and 8ohm impedence when specifiying the power output, e.g.,

    Power Output
Maximum power output per channel - RMS into 8 ohms
    180 x 7 (6 ohms)

I take it the centre column is a general description and the right column the actual spec? What does this mean for my 8ohm speakers, practically and in terms of watts per channel?

    Thanks.

    Hi Heighway61.

The ohm rating means that if you use 6ohm speaker you will get 180W for each of the 7 channels.
If you let me know which amp you are talking about i can check its rating for 8ohm speakers. The higher the Ohms the lower the wattage output.

Really the only under carpet speaker that we stock would be the Cambridge Symphony 300 priced at £1.99 per meter and is a flat cable.

Although Symphony 100 is also a thin cable priced at 99p per meter.

Are there any amps you have been looking at at the moment?

Thanks for the prices. Have you a flat sub cable? Was looking at the Onkyo TX-RZ 810, but definitely not decided on anything yet. Thanks.

    Heighway,

thanks for the posts - we don't do a flat Sub cable but we do have a fairly thin one - The Cambridge Audio Aud100 7.5 Mtr specialist Sub cable is fairly thin but you will see it under a carpet, its pretty reasonable though at just £19.95 / €27.99 ( The Euro pricing includes P & P):
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-10538-aud100-75m-sub-cable.aspx

However if you do want to be really clever - our friends at Monitor Audio have brought out a really clever little solution which you can use to make any sub completely wireless:
    http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/results?search=wt1

The Monitor Audio WT-1 and WR-1 are a transmitter & receiver that will take any audio output ( such as your Sub output) and send it wirelessly  to another part of your home ( or of course across the room!) they are really high quality transmitters and really small, discreet and totally simple to setup.  They are not expensive for fairly clever and dedicated tech at £29.99 each for the transmitter and the receiver.

Also if you don't already have a sub then the spanking new Monitor Audio WS-10 Subwoofer already has the wireless receiver built in and you just have to add the WT-1 transmitter:
    http://ca2.monitoraudiocdn.com/downloads/other-documentation/WS-10-Flyer.pdf?mtime=20160802162521

The WS-10 is just £299 and if you twisted our arm we may even throw in the WT-1 given the week that's in it :)

    Keep us posted,

That wireless solution sounds ideal! Can it be as good as wired though? Not faulting it, just wondering. I have a Monitor Audio AW12. Would I need a set for each speaker if I wanted to go wirelesss with the rear speakes also?

Just getting back to the ohms question, is there a formula to get the watts per channel for 8ohm speakers when the amp specifies wattage for 6ohms?

    Thanks.

    Hi All,

Would this also work for rear surround speakers?

Apologies for the delay and yes it will send the audio signal from your amp to rear speakers - the caveat is of course that you amplifier has to have a pre-amp output for the rear speakers which is rare in AV Receivers these days until you nudge up into at least the mid-range price wise!

Thanks again and keep me posted,

    The ONKYO TXRZ810 datasheet says:

    1.0 V/470 Ω (Pre Out)
    1.0 V/470 Ω (Subwoofer Pre Out

    Is that what's needed?

Also, what's the wattage from that amp into 8ohm speakers?

    Thanks.

    Heighway,

if its the TX-RZ810 you are looking for it has line level pre-outs for all channels so you can use the Monitor Audio WT-1 WR-1 / Wireless Transmitter / Receiver kit no problem.

You can check out the power ratings across various impedance on the fact sheet HERE:

    http://www.eu.onkyo.com/downloads/2/9/6/2/9/ONKYO_TX-RZ810_datasheet_EN.pdf

Thanks again and keep us posted if we can assist and if you would like a Boardie deal on a bundle with the Onkyo TX-RZ810 just drop me a line and I'll pop one back across to you.
