    Hi Guys

I have an old home cinema system, this one. https://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-specs/HT-SS1300/list

The amp is giving trouble so I want to replace it.

I was looking at the Denon AVR-X520BT, as I want Bluetooth capability too.

Would this work with the speakers and Sub I have already? It just regular 2 core speaker wire it uses currently.

I'm confused by the power rating too, my old one says it was a 1000w and the denon says 130w?

Oh and if I play 3D movies on my projector through this, is it compatible?

    Thanks

    Hi Rob,

thanks for the post and apologies for the delay getting back to you - we are all working flat out at the moment, apologies!

The Denon AVRX520 is a great receiver and its just had a £20 price drop last night for the Black Friday event which always helps - its down to £199 / €249 now which is a great price for a quality branded AV receiver.

Ok so the bad news first - it will work with your satellite speakers but your subwoofer is not an active Sub - all modern AV receivers and 5.1 movie soundtracks use a separate discreet Sub track now and to get the best out of the Denon you really should treat it to a reasonable active sub ( we have decent one available from under £100) of course you can upgrade in stages which is what I A L W A Y S recommend that our Customers do - that way you can save and buy well when there are deals around and you also get to really hear where the improvements are coming from rather than just get a complete system delivered and they cant work out what clicks and what doesn't!

On the positive side - ignore power ratings ( especially the Sony ones) all manufacturers use different methods to measure their power and they also use different distortion levels - I'm guessing that Sony have grouped ALL the channels together and that's what they are quoting as the combined power rating - specialist Audio manufacturers will always quote the power rating for each channel and generally they will use low distortion and reasonable impedence figures to arrive at the rating - it looks less impressive on the box when its sitting on the retailers shelf - but you will find that as a general rule - it sounds a damn sight better!

3D - yes no problem its 3D ready - check it out here:

    John

Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

So, I might just chuck the lot so. If I paired the Denon with this http://www.richersounds.ie/p-11012-s-hs100.aspx would it be ok. I'm not looking for amazing sound its just the living room. Description says that sub is active.

    Cheers

    Rob

'Chuck the lot so' - my favourite phrase :D

Ok if you are looking for a decent AVR AND 5.1 pack then rather than look at the Pioneer SHS100 which is pretty basic - have a look at the matching Denon SYS2020:
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202313-deno-sys2020-blk.aspx

All the audio-nerds out there may recognise it as a Boston Sound Cube system and they wouldn't be far off the mark as Boston is a Denon group company ;) - we have just reduced the 5.1 system from £299 this morning but if you took them in a bundle with the AVRX520 I can do the complete system reduced from the £518 it was a couple of days ago to a Boardie Black Friday sharp pencil special of £349.95 / €429 including delivery.

for an additional £30 over the AVRX520 / Pioneer SHS100 package its a no-brainer and we have them all available in stock and ready to ship straight out to you.

sorry for complicating things again - will sound far better tho'

    John

All sounds great but I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board first with my projector, I gave up on it last night. I bought an Optoma HD141X (not from ye, but I did try :) ), it's hurting my eyes and I'm picking up rainbows. I'd get over the rainbows, but it's really straining my eyes looking at it. Seems too bright or something, maybe its just DLP isn't for me, my old Sony 3LCD SVGA projector didn't give me this trouble.
