Hi guys looking for a bit of advice , built a house back in 09 got a landline text dialer fitted on the alarm, problem is now when the alarm goes off it rings our phones with a beep and makes our phone line and broadband useless for 3-4 hours while it's dialing out ......the company who fitted it went bust is there anyway of disconnecting the text dialer on the control panel with a code ?

You could just physically disconnect the phone line from the dialler.Othetherwise you would need the engineer code.

This started happening ours when Eircom removed the facility to send texts from landlines. You could use HKC's SecureText service if you would like to continue receiving texts. Think it's about 40 quid a year for up to 50 texts a month. You'll still need the engineer code for this to be set up.

Possibly a stupid question, but why can the engineer charge for the code if you bought the alarm system?

In what I do, machinery will always come with full documentaion including codes, but dimensioned drawings would cost extra for example. This kind of situation is quite complex really, and hardly fair for the average customer.

We have had this argument out over & over on this forum.
Ownership of something does not entitle you to full access like that.
Even after engineer codes there are manufacturer codes and more.Even engineers would not be entitled to stuff like this. Its there to protect the programming, settings & configuration of devices .
The same goes for probably most electronic equipment in your house.
TVs have menus we would not have access to
    Phones have the same
    Cars have the same no.
    Washing , machines, cookers,microwaves etc.

Anyway. Back to alarms. most good engineers can reset most systems if required so the myth that its locking you to an installer is not the case.
