Saw this today by Michael Dervan in the Irish Times.
Seems that John O'Kane, Executive Director of RTE Performing Groups has been moved aside into some makey uppey role called "Music and Arts Strategy Executive".

They do love their bull**** titles out in Montrose.

Management responsibility for the Groups falls to the Head of Lyric FM, Aodan O Dubhaill - the person who has given us Marty Whelan, the opera tour guide, John Kelly's noise hour and endless repetition of 50 pop classical tunes outside of these - oh, and the axing of Gloria and any credible specialist programmes which used to exist on the station.

The future for the NSO and RTECO is a merger by 2023 perhaps?

Or just playing The Teddy Bear's Picknic on loop, with special link ups to Marty back in the studio. Heavens above - that anyone involved in the cess pit that is Lyric should be within a bargepole of the the NSO and CO surely is a new low for this country.
Is all Ireland culture just draining away ? Maybe it is all already gone.

The orchestras don't even tour anymore , time was we would have a full symphonic concert in Limerick and elsewhere a couple of times year .

Why do RTE shunt people aside into non jobs instead of the heave ho like every other business ?

The best way to revive Irish culture is to import Protestants!
