The audio recording of his Edinburgh festival gig is brilliant. (Prometheus volume 1)

    https://www.frankieboyle.com/prometheus-vol-1/

First few mins are okish, then gets really good. He's still got it.

Yeah, I was referencing more Carr than Boyle-Boyle, when he doesn't go mean, is pretty good. Carr....it's a shame.

I was at jimmy carrs' last gig here and it was a "greatest hits" gig, basically 1000's of jokes interspersed with presentations on screen...

I observed loads of people over 30 laughing their asses off and loads of people in their 20's looking awkward and feeling guilty about laughing.

That generation has been brainwashed by twitter and youtube to be offended by everything. Let me guess lots of beards and colourful hair?

I feel that a massive problem with Irish comedy is the fact there are just too many comedians all who are fitting into similar camps. You have the imitators, the candid camera types, the vulgar types and the smart alec types. All get very clichéd. There is a feeling of a factory where acts are mass produced.

If they're on twitter, possibly-but idiots are never a generational thing.

Case in point-the people complaining about Friends. I can find many more who are addicted to repeats of that show. All 20-somethings.

Meave Higgins. She was ok on Naked Camera and would probably make a good comic actress but her own material and standup is just rambling, unfunny stream of consciousness drivel.

Wholeheartedly agree, but she’s been mentioned on this so often now I think she deserves a separate thread or the thread should be renamed ‘the most unfunny comedian ever’.

I think that the modern pc rubbish that governs the media is responsible for these countless bland comedians.

Just look at UK panel shows. Virtually all of the comedians that appear on them are unremarkable and interchangeable, and all of their material is bland, predictable and safe. Comedians have to watch what they say; one person on Twitter claiming they were "offended" could result in a comedian becoming a pariah to the mainstream media. Irish comedians need to break the UK market to have any real success, so they too fall prey to this culture that seeks to dilute and pasteurize real comedy.

or they are genuinely just shįte at what they do.

god help them if they ever go to see Frankie Boyle live.

Oh I don't know about that, whatever about his writings for the likes of the Guardian, his stand up is still wildly offensive (still very very funny)

She is absolutely crap. Amazingly when shes over from the States (can keep her) she is often on the Late Late.

Such amazing exposure for someone so bereft of talent.

Audience dont take offence to her shamefuk lack of any talent whatsoever as she is heavier and older looking than the 55 year old audience.

Well when she said on TV she landed in New York and men found her irresistible and she was incessantly being hit on shows you delusional she is. Looks always part of comedy look at Tommy Tiernan and the grey birds nest on his head. Its part of the comedy. He knows this

    Ugly ass woman.
More chins than a Chinese phone book and a head like a chewed up toffee.

You still haven’t answered my question. What has her appearance got to do with her act?

Do you want some harsh criticism yourself? You come across as a deeply troubled and bitter man, with not an ounce of humour to you. Perhaps you should let the laughter in.

Well that answer will have to suffice. I have a great sense of humour its dark but like chocolate best like that.Seeing as you like to comment and give Criticism well I can too.

    Advice eh.
I'd really really suggest you speak to your son rather than slate him on this your dismissal of him on another thread was deeply disturbing and sad. Life is hard and trust me he wants to talk to you rather than have you dismiss him and his hobbies of wrestling/video games etc and then slating him on this. To strangers no less. Why do this to him?. Very troubled mind you have friend. To speak so poorly of him to total strangers is sad I wish you can sort it out. God bless

I suggest you look up psychological projection and what it means.

Why you so angry?. With me and your own son?.

Let the light in my friend take it easy. Jesus forgives you if you repent!.

Okay, I won't comment on Maeve's appearance... more her dress sense, as she has started to go around dressed in black cloaks. She used to wear bright colours, and now she's going around being depressed. It's like...her emo/ goth phase just arrived or something. Really embarassing.

She also will attack a comedians set, on the same show she's on, and to me that's just not professional.

She was on the late late a week ago-and 'Aw, damn' she put her foot in it. She tried to a bit about how she got her dog on the plane because she pretended to have a disability, and made out he was a therapy dog.
Well, cue tweet, same night, with 'not apologising'-with her in the pub with a pint and a packet of King crisps.
But Autism Ireland, guide dogs, mental health foundations, and the average joe on the street condemning her actions-and rightly so. It shows how she wants 'all the benefits' ie 'to be molly coddled' but none of the responsibilities (the usual stuff of folks like Louise O'Neill-also shows her Des bishop interview in a new light, too).

You had Maia Dunpy, Alison Spittle and Gearoid Farrelly being all 'you go girl' and 'planes are accomodating' (as others pointed out, no they aren't. If one person has a guide dog or helper for someone with autism-planes will often only allow one dog)-but many parents of disabled kids were fuming. And it didn't let up. Those with potentially dangerous allergies were also raging.

Cue a week later, a grovelling apology.

    She's embarassing.

Of all the thick right-wing terms of abuse, "virtue signalling" is the thickest. Especially when applied to someone like Frankie Boyle.

Jesus, Ray, Bambi is as socialist as they come. You’re only a champagne socialist in comparison. Don’t be turning on each other lads. Don’t want a split.

I couldn't care less. It's a term invariably used by right-wingers to describe anyone who happens to express an opinion that isn't overtly unpleasant.

You seem very offended by a service dog routine, not even the quality of the material just the fact she slagged service dogs.

Many were offended-she could have made it funny, she didn't. That's the problem. I can laugh at really controversial subjects-by other comics.

She didn't-despite Ryan's 'laughing', her material was rubbish.

Cue a week later, a grovelling apology.

She apologised the very next morning, as soon as it became apparent that some people were offended.

    Here's what she apologised for:

Yes I do-she was on the Late Late-she bombed.

    She didn't (see video above).

Her appearance is very relevant to her act as some of her top drawer material is based upon fictional encounters of the constant unwanted male attention she has to put up with. It’s not funny, she’s a disgusting fat slag and has a face like a welders bench.

Meanwhike same folk insult male comedians looks no bother and totally ignorant to the fact she states she allegedly gets scolded by men walking around after her. Her vile looks says otherwise.
