On a budget of €150, I would purchase a set of binocular a tripod and adaptor. Much better optics in a set of bino's than any telescopes on offer in that price range.

Its for my son and its a first telescope so maybe a pair of good binoculars would do alright

Normally Aldi / Lidl do very basic value telescopes some with half decent Eastern European optics.

https://www.aldi.ie/p/93993/0 - but this one says National Geographic so just avoid. Great magazines but every other product with that brand is shoddy, should have released when that when they scanned the back issues at 150dpi for the CD release - unreadable.

Ibsee Argos and Smyths have a variety but again its the quality thats an issue.

I don't want to buy a telescope thats too expensive incase he decides to get board yet I want to buy a decent one so he can get the proper experience from it

No, they are on line sellers. Perhaps if you contact them directly they might arrange a meet up.

The Bino's definitely look like the better option. A tripod and a adaptor and it'll be way ahead of their telescope.
