Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Garda stage 3 - preparation

    Hi,

I am of many who succeeded in stage 2 and were invited to stage 3 :) For the previous stages I prepared myself using careerservices.ie website and attending two courses in Cork. Now regarding stage 3 - I have two options to prepare this time.

Option 1 - careerservices again - it is held in group of people and all is explained by retired superintendent from Garda (150E cost)

Option 2 - ex-superintendent Noel Mcloughlin - individual one-to-one meeting, covering everything that is needed to successfully complete stage 3 (300E - cost, he claims to have 98% passed interviews).

I am wandering if any of you have any previous knowledge regarding both options and would you be able to tell me which should I choose to have more chances passing the interview. Maybe some reviews regarding Mr. Noel Mcloughlin could help as well, as I am so far very satisfied with careerservices. However, Noel was recommended to me by a good friend putting me in confusing state of mind :)

So please any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your help and good luck in stage 3 ;)

I did prep course for each stage with career services including stage 3. It was very good went through each competency in detail and gave little tips throughout. I passed my interview and would highly recommend. Best of luck.

I've heard a lot of good things about Noel! I'm planning on going to him for help, I'm placed around the 350 mark! I'd recommend him. He's ment to be the best in Ireland!

Hi guys, I am thinking of doing the preparation courses that careers services do, I definitely need help with the aptitude tests and the interview stage for sure, could anyone tell me who have done the preparation courses especially for the interview stage can you tell me how helpful were they? Did they help you with the competences, how to structure answers and all, did they do 1 on 1 work or all group work.

    Hi vardy98,

I would surely recommend Careerservices for stage 1 and stage 2. I did them both and was really pleased with the amount of information provided and well covered material - top marks. When it comes to stage 3, I also went for Careerservices but I have to admit that it is a group course and therefore not customized and focused only on you. You will hear other people's examples for different competences, which might be helpful if you are out of and ideas, but I personally believe that it is wiser to do one-to-one as you will be the main focus and the examples will be based on your application form, making it very customized and more detailed. I chose Careerservices because it was the cheapest (150E) and could not afford private ex-superintendent or sergeant at that time. So save some money and find a very good one-to-one preparation when it comes to stage 3 i.e. http://www.gardainterview.ie/stage-3-2016.html or http://www.gardaip.com/garda-interview-preparation. The first one is cheap enough 180E (I discovered that one too late) and the other is 300E. Gud luk!

Thank you Vodkacz for your reply you have helped me decide what to now, I'm going to do stage 1 and stage 2 prep courses with careers services, and I am going to do stage 3 prep course with the first option you mentioned that was 170 euro, I looked them up and they seem really good especially since its one on one, I will see when it comes closer to the time, I am waiting for the next recruitment campaign but I just wanted to see what courses at available, so thanks again.

What community work would be good to do, I was thinking of going to help at my local bingo handing out tickets, would this be good to do, or what I mean would it fall under any of the competences in the interview, any other advice would be appreciated.

Any community work would be greatly appreciated by the Board Members (looks great on the application form). But if you are seriously thinking about becoming a Garda I would consider joining Garda Reserve.

Are the Garda reserve taking anyone on how do you apply for that, does there be a recruitment campaign for that? I cant find anything.

You'll be past retiring age before you get called for the Garda reserve. I am waiting on a training date for the last 1.5 years I applied in 2012
